I think the concept behind the Jupiter 80 is very promising.
An entire synth based on SuperNatural sounds.... great.
The price is fab - £2500 in the UK.

It's just not for me though - whilst the sound quality seems to be quite impressive, and I WILL try one, the Kronos is what I'm after. Especially when you take into account the price difference (circa £300/400).......

However, credit where credit's due, well done Roland, you've come up with something both interesting and useful (for a change!!)

This all benefits the live musician especially!
Yamaha SY77 & KX88, SSL Nucleus, Korg Kronos 61, Wavestation A/D, Access Virus B, Roland XP30, DeepMind12D, System 1m, V-Synth XT, Focusrite Red16Line, Unitor 8, Akai S3000 XL, Alesis Quadraverb+, Focal Shape Twins, Full fat iMac, Logic Pro X, ProTools 2021, loadsa plugins.

I found the Sonic State Video very impressive. Notably the Pads. Though the devil is in the details which I'm waiting for. The Roland videos were surprisingly horrible, even for Roland.

I don't think it's a Kronos killer by any stretch(They appear to be intended for different audiences anyway), but it's nice to see Roland put out something decent vs. the garbage they've been putting out for several years.

Not too impressed by the Yamaha MOX 6/8. Nice if you're a Cubase user I guess. Nothing new sonically or hardware interface - wise.

I like the different button interface and touchscreen as it looks fairly easy to navigate and edit different sounds w/o having to read 5 pgs of the manual to do so. The colored buttons, D Beam are cool ..afterall it is a retro synth and not a polished black baby grand. I hope more demos get posted of all the different sounds so we can really hear this..

How about someone doing a side by side spec comparison of the Kronus, XF and Jupiter so we can see all the hardware and software differences between the 3. And make it a sticky thread!

How much is the US Price?

Jupiter 80 price

Post by RKfan »

It appears that Roland have decided to do the exact opposite of Korg - In Europe it is going to be priced at €3,000 and in the US - you are going to have to wait until September - because they aint going to tell you!!!

Speculation in the US will go on for months and months and people are going to suggest prices around the $4,500 to $5,000 mark....

I am of course joking - why would a company do anything so dumb as not release their prices at a major music showcase when they know that a lot of people really want to know.... Ooops that's what Korg is doing....

There never IS anything new except the price point for the technology. The MO series is a cheapened version of the previous motif. In this case the XS. For the price point, there's a LOT of power there. It'll probably eat the M50 and other Sub $1000 keyboards for breakfast.

Plus, the light weight is a nice bonus for those that gig! It's what I like most about my M50!

Nice demo of the Jupiter-80... didn't know Howard was still around.
I am SERIOUSLY BLOWN AWAY!

256 Voices! NOW We're talking! Do you realize how much layering you can do??? This is PERFECT! RICH Textures of sounds, with DENSE Chords. I mean WOW!

I have ONE thing to say, regarding polyphony:

IT'S ABOUT F**KING TIME YOU IDIOTS!!!!!

They FINALLY came through after 3-4 YEARS of PURE BS with the Fantom-G and the V-Synth GT with it's measely unforgiveable 28-Voice capacity!

If I was at Musik Messe right now, I'd tell that to their faces.

Overall, I am AMAZED with the Jupiter-80!

Sina
Ok, now you're praising Roland. Korg don't pay you anymore? You're an useless retard. Why don't you shoot yourself? How many Oasys did they steal you? YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!!!! Nothing more.

Sina & Penumbra.
If you wish to take swings at each other, use the PM system. Don't post this on the forum or you will become my problem to sort out and you won't like how that ends.

Regards
Sharp.

Sina, Jupiter-80 has just one LFO per layer. Calm down. And it's 256 layers of polyphony rather than 256 full voices. Calm down. Kronos is still WAY better. ;)

I get what you're saying here, but that's STILL FAR better than the V-Synth GT's piece of crap 28-voice limitation.

Sina
i won't call V-synth GT a piece of crap honestly.... imo it's one of the most innovative synth come out in the last years... anyway sometimes 4 voices are much better that a 256 voices ultra-layers super-fat etc etc chords...
