I would think it will work identical. Even labels will probably be just in English.
Mine, living in EU, does not come with a power supply, so no risk there to have mismatches if you buy one from Japan. The manual is in English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese. Which makes me further believe, there is only one single version. For each language they show the front panel with English tags. The volca has no language setting at all.
And it is now widely availabe in europe. So why bothering buying a japanese one?
