I called the repair center (AudioElectronics) in Dallas. They had heard of the problem but hadn't seen one. I will make arrangements to go there and let them see it and decide how to proceed. I'll have to see what day is best because it is a 150 mile drive each way. Unfortunately there is a $50 rush fee to have them work on it while I wait. I'm sure Korg will take care of that though. :)

How to open close display PA4X

Post by joe2116 »

Having watched the Pa4X video manual, the example shows to keep your finger on the unlock button when moving the screen up and down, and then its a last push to click to completely close the screen back down.

Here's the video

I actually have now gotten into the habit of keeping the button pressed all the way down - so no "click".
Don't know if this will save my PA4X or not????????

I always did it that way, from the start, and it still broke.

Hi,

In order to cut the processing time needed to go through the service centers and analyse the problem quickly, may I ask you to post here some pictures and/or videos of the problem? This would help us collect the various issues and see what is happening.

Thank you very much!

Basically the screen when pushing the button does not go up, looks like many people are having this problem including me, doesn't look like Korg can do anything about it here in the US?

Here is link to video illustrating the problem. It was taken on the job at the end of the evening and background music was playing.

Seems like this is a weak point in the screen components - over time, we may all end up with this problem.
Would be great to see inside and figure exactly what has worn/broken etc....
Hopefully the hold-down catch is slipping out of alignment and can be fixed with an adjustment but it is not sensible to fiddle with a machine under warranty.

It is not easy to lift the keyboard up and shake it to listen for loose parts ( )

I hope Korg can throw some light on this soon.

I am lucky with mine so far but very wary of it now....

At least it is great that Paolo has acknowledged the issue and wants to assist.

Cheers

Paulo asked that we post these pictures and videos so that Korg could get a handle on the problem. I know they will address it soon.

i always push "unlock" button before take down display till bottom . I am not pushing it like on the video... I have Pa4x since november, so far no problems, maybe it is a weak spot, but you people should be gentle, too ;)

Just to clarify, I was holding the camera in my left hand, but I was using my right thumb to hold the button as I moved the screen with my fingers. I never lower or raise it without holding the button. I think at one point during the video the screen slipped down a little when my fingers moved, but I was still holding the button.
At any other time I'd be using both hands to adjust the screen height. I'm always very gentle when handling any part of the keyboard. It keeps me from having to get a REAL job somewhere. :)

OK Pete an update on my screen problem. I got in touch with the supplier who immediately arranged to collect my 4X by courier and then promptly sent it to Korg UK who then gave us their report which were words to the effect that this was caused by damage to the screen and not a failure of the components of the screen and was not covered by the warranty. Korg gave an estimate of the costs. Here I have to say the supplier was absolutely brilliant and kindly offered and did absorb the cost involved themselves (thats what you call customer service more than I can say about Korg) I will contact them and ask if they have any objection to me mentioning them.
I got my 4x back via courier it was at that point when I opened the box lid only that I was taken by disbelief and astonishment. There was my 4x sat in the box WITH THE SCREEN OPEN I couldn't believe that Korg would pack this and send it back with the screen wide open without taking the 4x out of the box wrapped in its polythene bag I attempted to close the screen whilst holding the lock button down and and guess what? the screen would not lock down. However I straight away contacted the supplier who immediately arranged to collect my 4x again and that is where it should be this Monday morning.
I had already had explained to Korg that this 4x had not taken a knock in my care or subjected to any damage Watch this space I'll be back.
Negativity is a disease of the brain. Positivity is owning a PA4X
