solution
you need to load the usb driver before you open the programme and transfer data. You can find the install for the driver in start-programme-korg then install usb driver. Once installed, open the programme and it will transfer data without problems
Took me a little while & I've managed to follow all the instructions from the Korg UK downloads.
All is fine now. As it was going down/installing I was a tad worried that it was going to conflict..(I'm not the best computer geezer around) but it didn't.
I'm very much enjoying my KP3. Haven't even got off the samples that came with it yet. They are so much fun.
Thanks once again to you guys at Korg!!!!!

hi guys, just wanted to share something that seems not to have been mentioned yet.
before you start bugging korg support, don't forget to set the kp3's midi filter to accept sysex messages!
press shift+4
select "sys.e"
push the selector knob
make sure it's set to "ena" - as in "enabled"
most important - write the data
then try sending your data again. cheers...
// edit: LOL, the funniest thing is that you can actually set the midi filter to block sysex messages from the editor... meaning, you transfer the setting, and all of a sudden it doesn't work anymore... LOL korg people, I absolutely love your products, but I'd say that's a minor f*kup

I had the same problem for about 20 minutes. I figured it out though. You have to make sure you install the usb to midi driver.
Windows will install the needed drivers on its own, but afterwards, go ahead and manually install the drivers that came with the Koass Editor.
Then in the Preference, choose Korg as midi in and midi out.
Its pretty easy

Had this problem on Mac; solved it
Hi,
I had this problem in my Mac. The solution is *not* to put the Korg in USB mode in order to transfer samples. USB mode is only for files on the SD card, not for programming the sample banks. I power cycled my Korg and then I stopped getting timeouts.

Timeout error
Despite reading through the solutions already posted, I still get the time out message after trying to transmit a sample. I also get the Driver not installed error despite numerous successful installs with the InstallWizard. When I try to install the driver direct from the Program/Korg folder, I get this dire warning from Microsoft stating that the driver has not been MS LOGO certified and I might very well destroy small countries if I continued. As I'm unwilling to take that risk, what else should I do?
OK, after reading the "instructions" that are described in passing, I've learned that these instructions refer to a file you can find after you've installed everything and messed it up. Korg is in fact asking you to install an unsigned driver to get things moving. I would suggest that the installation pdf file be posted as a link because you won't know what is meant by "instructions" if you follow the auto-install procedure the CD leads you through. Too bad about those small countries though...
