A Brief History

Post by pjblues »

I am a typical "baby boomer". I am a rocker from the 60's who never got out of music. I have played in a Christian rock band and recently in my church praise band. However; I am always playing the rock side of the music no matter what. Anyways, I setup a basement studio and I really enjoy electronic type of music. My gear includes the M3, Fantom X6, V-Synth XT, Pro Tools LE 002, Logic Pro 8, several guitars, and Mesa amps. I cannot sing a lick but hopefully with the Melodyne software that will be cured.

Thought I start this topic back up again.

I got into Industrial/Electronic music back in the early 80's because of my father.

He was a big fan of Tangerine Dreams I would ask him to play the Stratosfear Album before I went to bed LOL .

He started buying every gear thats was in at that time my earliest memory was me playing on a Roland SH 101, Korg Polysix & Roland Jupiter 8.

Naturly got into the whole Industrial scene and became a Industrial Powernoize/EBM DJ in the 90's and after I got married decided to stop playing everyone else's music and start making my own music.

I started playing drums when I was 11 so I was pretty much into metal and hardcore punk until I listened to Skinny Puppy's "Bites" like around when I was 16 (1992?). BY that time my guitarist had a Casio SK-5 lying in his bedroom for months maybe years until I decided to sample stupid sounds in it (coolest one was the sound of a dry water pump) and putting it through his guitar pedals and effects. Few months later my bassist got a Roland R8 drum machine (which was also processed through guitar pedals) and that's when it really got insane; people really dug our shows, and keep in mind this was early 90's in the Dominican Republic, so NOBODY was doing what we where down there, therefore the scene wasn't so populated either, but it was fun and fresh.

But it didn't last long, I had to leave town, but I got to keep the R8 (and was able to convince my father to ship my drumkit to florida with us) and by that time I was already listening to stuff like Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk and Cabaret Voltaire, so I saved up some money and bought me my first real synth/sampler: an Ensoniq EPS-16+ 8). I abused that machine for about 12 years, I hear it's still going though (I heard it ended up in Spain) and never looked back... Except for some B.S. you encounter in your late 20's/ early 30's :?

Listened to a bunch of HORSE the band because ive always loved 8-bit, and when i was on pandora radio they played enter shikari.
I saw some of their live videos and saw the EMX-1, and videos related to it, so i checked it out and bought it.
Now i do anything with my synth and whatever else i think sounds good.
