As others have suggested, it sounds like the PCI card is either not seated and connected properly, or is not functioning properly for some other reason. It's unlikely that the Public ID would start with a string of zeros, so my guess is that this was another indication of the problem.

Taking it into a service center would be one solution. Many problems are much easier to solve when talking with a product support specialist in real-time, as opposed to internet forums. The Korg Distributor in Malta is:

They are responsible for service and support. However, I understand that Malta is a small market (and "AUDIO & AUTO SOUND" implies that they may not be specialists in musical instruments...?). Perhaps they have an arrangement with Korg's distributor in Italy?

Hi Dan, thanks for the msg. Infact i knew since i saw the 00-00-00 -00 of the new Public ID that something is wrong,.. cos any machine code cant have all that 00 in its addresses. Strangly. now, the Oasys is working. however i cant trust the machine and i fear that tomorrow it will crash / not switch on / asking me for some Public ID Auth CD ect. when i will be ready for the show.

Regards the shop address you gave me,.. i know about it,.. but i wont take my Oasys there! The Oasys took a whole year to come here since ordered,.. let alone fixing an Oasys with a problem. im sorry, but if there is anything to do,. i would prefare doing it myself with your (team's) help rather then going there!

i ve been repairing Korg stuff for years now,.. mine, of friends and of ppl who i dont even know,.. but all have the same feeling about our korg distributor!

i have nothing against the guy,.. he helps artists, .. but kindness doesn't repair electronics.

What do you suggest i should test first?

I wish that I was able to help you directly, but unfortunately I am not allowed to assist users in carrying out their own repairs. I can only recommend that you take the OASYS to an authorized service center; anything else would presumably void your warranty. If you cannot find a service center that meets your needs in Malta, it might be worth trying to find one in Italy.

An authorized service center would first check that the PCI card was seated firmly into the slot. They would also check that all cables were seated firmly in their connectors, and were not crimped when the case was closed. While the case was open, they would make sure that no foreign objects (loose screws, etc.) were inside the case. If problems persisted after doing all of these checks, they might try replacing various internal parts, such as the PCI card.

The procedure you recommended is good,. and can be done by almost all users

. Infact,.. somehow & somewhat,.. my Oasys did switch on after that... leaving out the Public ID changing.

I checked all cables with impedance and contin. and they are all fine. Nothing was torn when opened and closed ( very neat structure inside, well done )

How does the Public ID store itself? is it a normal ROM? as in EEROM?

So, can i order a PCI Card from somewhere? and does this comply in the warrnanty?

As far as I know, unfortunately, parts would only be available to service centers. Have you tried talking with the Italian Korg distributor?

I can understand your dissapointment so well.

I've my Oasys with the screen not working from several months now and after a month in the authorized service the only answer I had is that there is no parts available from Korg Japan....
Even worse, my Oasys returned form the service with the cable connecting the screen to the conversor loosen and the connector broken (or with the lock missing)...Too bad... A big frustration!!!!

Thanks so much for your help. For sure you can help a lot contacting the right people. In fact I sent you a private message a week ago asking for such help as I'm radher desperate now.....
According to them it's the LCD part. Touchscreen is working but I'm not sure if it can be moved from an LCD to another as it seems to be glued.
The LCD from NEC is available in US without the touchscreen for about 60 USD in some internet places. In Korg manuals there is just one part code for LCD+Touchscreen so I think I should change both if I get it from Korg
My problem now is the broken connector in the AD Video conversor. Maybe I'd need to replace that part too (I doubt I could get just the connector part missing -a plastic lock that keep the flat cable to the LCD in position-)

Parts involved:
LCD:
Touch Panel LCD MSA2021 (50031300620)
KLM-2492 PCB (200046362421) (almost sure it's not the problem as the only logic there is a resistor..but I'm not an expert)

Additionally I would like to replace:
Flat Cable 45 pins FFC HNS-3460 (500545050910)
Aluminium tape (not a part)
...as it's not in perfect condition after several assembling-dissasemblig.

And if the connector part missing is not available:
LCD AD Video Converter MSA2023 (500002186400)

If you need I can send you all the pictures showing the connector part missing or any other part...I have a lot of them before/after dissasembling/repairing.

Korg said a long time ago that LCD touchscreen of the 'O was the price of the Triton LE !!!!!!!

I can't imagine a such piece or connectors associated are discontinuted !!

ldascanio, why KORG didn't make something to help you, it's a shame to have an Oasys with the screen not working during several months !!!

If the repair support of big O' is so bad, I think it's future can't be good

For myself, I don't hope to find my O' in a museum because part can't be changed !

Hope you're right Dan, but my first mail to the technical service asking for availability and cost of these parts was on November 20th, 2007. I cannot avoid some panic feelings anymore

Count on your help to have a definitive answer (even if not available, I could at least look for a different screen or look for an LCD repair center instead of wait for several months for nothing).

I've talked about the LCD panel alone. All the screen system includes also the touchscreen and the AD Video converter. So the total cost for sure is higher. Anyway you can get complete 10.4" LCD monitors with touchscreen for less than 400 USD and some of them with 15" LCDs for even less. Unfortunately you cannot connect any touchscreen to the Oasys. You need a 4 wires touchscreen (a resistive one I think).

Here the results of a quick search for the LCD pannel (NEC NL6448BC33-59) ranging from 65 USD to 118 USD (from resellers / bulk in some case so you need to spend at least 100 USD to order but it gives an idea of the cost...)

Let me find out that Korg has discontinued any repair parts for the Oasys, It's bad enough them discontinuing the exb(adat) and them basically telling us Oh well, too bad, good luck finding one. In my opinion basic customer service would be too develop and offer a replacement option such as maybe an exb-fire wire fitted for the Oasys. This is one personal strike against Korg.

I pray that this is not true, that they have discontinued any of the replacement parts for the Oasys. If true. I will sell my Oasys quickly and not buy another Korg product. What good is a warranty if the Oasys cannot be fixed.
