Sorry to say it, but a "surge protector" weighing less than 2 lb does nowt worth having. They protect against 1 surge and then the protection element fails and there's nothing to tell you it's failed because it fails open circuit.
For factory installations we use huge MOVPE semiconductors as overvoltage/ lightning surge protectors. We have to fit them with failure detection and alarm circuits, since we have to renew them on a regular basis, often every time there is a lightning storm in the vicinity.
Protecting a circuit against over-current and against insulation breakdown is easy and cheap to do. Protecting against over voltage spikes is very difficult (and expensive). Unfortunately it's the over voltage spikes that destroy most computer processors. And LED's for that matter.

Deleted the new sounds and a few more and still the same especially when playing fast..It's like the CPU is too slow ....I am also using the new power surge protector. I don't know what's going on but sure I'm pissed.......... playing at a wedding next Sat. don't know what to do.............

Hi Simon,
I would buy it for the $100,000 equipment potection guarantee alone. I can't believe the guarantee would pay out if you popped your Pa gear though. How would you progress the claim and prove the cause? How would you establish that it was not a manufacturing fault?
Also I don't know for definite if overvoltages are the root cause. The saga continues. It's just that I'm suspicious when LED's are blowing as well as the processor locking up. This points to voltage regulation or noise spike problems. Let's continue to share our findings? Keep a date log each time an LED blows?

Yes Rob, if you use a UPS it will definitly help you... I 'compulsorily' use a UPS on my Korg and Roland from day 1 whether being used at home or for playing live and never had any such problems. ... and not only on my musical instruments but on my lcd tv and music system as well...
It is very very safe. Adding a UPS in line reinforces my confidence.

Just to recap, "the freeze" is defined as a Pa2x OS1.11 or Pa800 OS1.60 which during live playing locks up - possibly with notes stuck on - and you have to turn power off because nothing else will reset the keyboard to working state. This is a serious problem and it will be fixed as soon as the root cause can be proven and recreated.
Can anyone else recreate the failure condition and try to explain what triggers it? In which case, please contact me in private by PM or Email. It would be better to keep any speculation about this in private until the solution is in place.
I am collating together everyone's information and I will send it where it matters most
. I'm sure a solution also for the LED problem (which is definitely hardware related) will be provided very rapidly. I did contact Korg about it and I was told that it is receiving attention.

Well, after such a long gap. I thought the issue had gone away. I was playing Happy Birthday using Slow Waltz 2 and selecting different Performances from the Strings & Vocal (ie factory styles, performance settings and sounds). It happened again. Just a continuous tone that would not go away until I rebooted!

I tried the Start/Stop button, do you mean Shift & Start/Stop button. I did not try that, what does it do?

That stops the unwanted noise, you dont have to reboot synth for that.

It's in the manual. Do a search for "panic". Most MIDI based instruments have a panic button and the Pa2X/Pa800 is no exception.

A hanging sound can also be stopped by going to USER and clicking on the hanging sound if shift+stop doesn't work

In the case of the Pa2x lock up failure mode, SHIFT + START/STOP does not work. It appears that all the key and button and LED scanning circuitry locks up. Some LEDs glow brightly some stop working. The only thing you can do is to turn the power off. I'm aware of this problem due to the 3 times it has happened to me.
If anyone else with a Pa2x experiences this "total lock up" problem, please reply on this thread. I will collect all our serial numbers and forward the information to Korg.
