I don't think it's overhyped, as it does a lot for the price, but you can't have everything. It's definitely a good starter piece, which can be relegated to doing rhythm and sequencing after you start adding more gear. Obviously you can buy something VA or analog that has fast ADSR envelopes and great sounding filters, but it will be in a different price league than the Electribes, and it will certainly lack other things that the Tribes offer. And b.t.w. I'm not selling mine!

I think your being paranoid, the emx is a great device for the money, it has it's sort coming, but what do you expect for the price...I haven't ever bought one piece of gear, however much it has cost, that has not had some frustrating aspects about it.
It does get over hyped by some, mainly bc it tends to be an entry level device, so people get over excited about it because they haven't heard other serious synths.
The electribe is completely usable in a professional context and is outstanding at creating complex digital sounds extremely fast.
I think people buy it expecting to be able to make release quality stuff on it lol
For the money it is one of the best groove tools on the market, if you use it's strengths, just the same as any other instrument.

I really don't think people bigup them to make them easier to sell, because they sell well anyway bc there an excellent synth for the money.

Exactly! Completely agree with you there ^^^

working within limitations, specially on a box that is so quick and intuitive (unlike every other so called 'groovebox') = love.

after enough practice anything becomes intuitive.... I've become as quick in making music in ableton as I am on the electribes. But, the electribes definitely have a very intuitive interface.

Well, one thing's for sure. Korg would never reveal their plans ahead of time for a new electribe. That would be shooting themselves in the foot.

They are banking on the fact that there's still plenty of demand for the current generation of Electribes. And they would never announce the new ones months in advance. That would kill sales until the new release. This is true for ANY company.

More likely they would announce the new ones and on the same day drop the price of the older generation by a hundred dollars.

I do believe they do not make the unit any more. Last time I talked to someone at guitar center they claimed that the units were discontinued and no longer produced.

Honestly I have low hopes on them making a new unit for a while. They seem to have shifted their focus in a different direction.

But who knows?

Which unit is discontinued? EMX? ESX? Both?

I know Ruso usually has his stuff together on these forums, but I have to disagree.

I JUST picked up the Korg 2009 paper catalog, and both current Electribes are present. Granted they're toward the back and only given a half page (shared with KP3), but it does not look like they're discontinued at all.

Just checked Guitar Center's home page, and it looks like only a few stores actually have them in stock anymore, so there's a good chance that guitar center is no longer carrying them in brick and mortar locations, but that doesn't mean Korg has ceased production.

Anyway, I'd like to ask that if any of the real Korg folks drop by here, they please drop a quick message and let us know what's going on with the Electribe line.

Agreed, from canada as well.

They are still in production, and I can't see them being discontinued for some time, according to Dawson's (UK Music store) , Korg have run out until January.

Some stores are not selling them anymore and so are saying they are "discontinued".

hidden lesson here: never get info from guitar center. those guys are clueless for the most part

The guy at the local Sam Ash also said the EMX-1 was discontinued and that he only ones they had left were demo ones. The GC around me suck, so I just ordered it online.

start buying tribes before they get rare,and you wont have to pay huge money for them.



i hate the way hardware is on the way out.face it,most companys are saying they are looking into software and midi controllers and stuff.i hope roland and korg will just keep it real,and keep producing hardware.
