I am really confused now. If I remember correctly, you have mentioned before that the memory chip is soldered and can not be replaced but per photos by Ozzie, they are not soldered. I guess the question is how to make the Pa800 see or to recognize the 128 Mb chip? This a good news but at the same time really confusing.
Best regards,
Fahim,
ROb is correct...the chip IS soldered to the board ...BUT not the MODULE.

This chip is not soldered, the RAM socket is soldered on the board but the chip clips on.
ajpa800 wrote:As far as I know, KORG Turkey does not do this modification. BUT, I did find somebody else that does it (I am not talking about trsample). I will be expanding my PA800 to 128MB in a couple of weeks. As soon as I do it, I will let you know the results and will give you all other information.
I think we wll have to wait than to somebody who will test it for us.
I was also thinking of doing it. But when they told me that it is not working I didn't went after it anymore.
Milo I have heard from couple friends, owners of PA1X, that the RAM for PA1X can be expanded, but it involves some soldering, therefore if you are not good at this I would not recommend it.
The information that I received about expanding PA800 is from a very reliable source. As soon as I get it done on my PA800 I will let you know more.
The ROM (factory samples) of PA800 is soldered onto the board, the RAM (user samples) is not soldered onto the board...you install RAM and remove it just like on a regular PC. the only problem I see is with software (it probably had to be modified)...when it comes to PCs, most of the time it is easy to design new hardware but getting software to work with it is difficult, that is where the problems occur.
If someone is going to the trouble to fit a 128/256 Mbyte memory module into a Pa800, then why not try the Pa2x version of OS2.01 since this obviously does support the extra memory?
Very interesting thread. I obtain my Ram for computers from Crucial and it looks a fairly standard type of ram which you would use in a laptop and cost under £20. So I believe that the replacement cost would be minimal.
But if we are going down that line I think we should be looking at possibly at a 1gb ram chip which as I said would be under £20 to buy. Fairly simple to fit if you know how because there is a technique and no force is required. Normally you put it in at an angle and then push down into the clips. Crucial ram comes with instructions so please read them.
Which leaves us with just the one problem and that is that the operating system will not recognise it. Which I believe leaves us in the hands of Korg and down to the OS. I would have thought that a company like Korg would have no problems sorting that out.
To be honest I am not sure what this extra ram would achieve - I am sure someone can explain and whther it is worth doing.
Keith
Edit - Rob got in before me - Korg already know how to.
Rob sherratt said try os pa2x in a pa800 that good . now just do it backward , load the pa2x with the pa800 os .. and see if the os system will see the extar ram .. this way there in no soldering to the board , the sound and style might mess up , but the ram should show up .
and the warranty is still good .. no soldering
This thread is getting too wacky for me. I'm ducking out of it and withdraw any previous comments or suggestions. I'm worried someone will ruin a perfectly good Pa800 or Pa2x and then come looking for me

Have you heard the old saying that goes , You can never be too rich, or too thin..etc? It's the same thing for ram. You can never have too much ram, or too big of a hard drive, or too fast internet connection... It's perfectly healthy to ask for more ram in this age. In my opinion, this should be given as an option to users. If you care for it, you buy it, and if you don't , you shouldn't be forced at gun point to add extra ram. Personally, i would never ever never mess with the board, unless it's a ligit add-on package from Korg. If it ever happens, i'll upgrade it in a heart beat.
HI Assyrianpianist, you re absolutely right in my opinion also this should be given as an option to users. Because every user use the board for different type of music. But still it is not too late Korg should do something about it, to not ruin the rupitation they have. Simply all they have to do to bring new OS to support the new RAM.
KOrg will make probably after a couple of year a new pa and then you get a bit more ram. Everyone will sell his pa and buy the new one..and that will go on..................korg makes more money............ It is the user that let korg do this in my opinion.

look at pa800 and pa2xpro
Hello Milo:
I do not agree with you at all. I know at least 55 musicians whom I deal with all the time and guess what they all own Korg Pa800. These days the economy of the world is bad and people no longer can afford to buy new keyboards. Most of good musicians and Korg Pa users here in US are really suffering and specially in wedding these days all you see are the DJ's. They are cheaper and can be found all the time. No body is buying used keyboards specially Korg's. Korg's reputation is not good among most of the musicians that I know. If Korg really wanted(but I do not thinks so) to keep their customers then they must provide us with an upgrade RAM chip. The can of worm has been opened and now it is too late for Korg to hide the truth. I will guarantee that someone in the next month or so could upgrade the Pa800 memory to 128,256 or even 512. Just remember this date and my words and I will remind you again in the future.
Best regards,
Fahim,
Life, is like a dead end road, with out music.....
Korg Pa3X, Korg Pa800 and Korg Triton Studio 76.............
YEA SURE, I think 2 GB of ram is on the way from, Roland, For GEM and KORG!
COMOON!Make music, Is better than talk about more ram and dreaming, There is absolutely a sollution, but KORG will never ever tell us!Thats 4 Sure
