Ah !

I've misunderstood your posts. So you're saying that copying the CDROM to HD is NOT possible! Instead, I have to manually load all sounds and then save them to the HD. That's a bloody pain - will take ages.

There surely MUST be a way to transfer the AKAI data bit-for-bit to a USB HD. I'm thinking long term - as in placing other AKAI libraries also onto a USB HD for OASYS use - the CDROM is simply so slow to read from. There must be a way. I'll enquire elsewhere and if find a method will post it here.

So my question is not an OASYS question - its - how to transfer AKAI libraries to PC/Mac USB HDs?

Surely the Chicken systems method is better than your proposal - it can convert the entire CDROM in one go to Triton format so surely this is easier than manually loading hundreds of instruments one by one on the OASYS and re-saving?

Hi Kevin.

No, you select the folder all the sounds are in and you load the folder. You do not open the folder, you actually load the folder.

AKAI disks also have partitions so you can keep loading the folder in each partition to memory and append it to the data already in memory.

It's a very automated process. Takes only moments to convert an entire AKAI disks to KORG forums.

No, chickensys does not generate OASYS PCG files. All you will get is raw data that's of very little use to you as the World Winds library your trying to load is complex and contains advanced sounds and COMBI's.

The “““ONLY”” way to load it is the way I've explained. You cannot load the data any other way. If you follow what I'm saying the OASYS will read all the AKAI progarms and generate it's own programs and COMBI's.

The end result will be sounds loaded correctly to memory just as good as a real AKAI Sampler.

If your still unsure of what I'm saying just let me know. I'll be in the Studio tomorrow all day and I can record a quick little video on my iPhone of me loading World Winds into the OASYS if you like.

Kind Regards
Sharp.

Sharp -

sorry to come back to this again; but could I bother you to provide a comprehensive description of what you mean? I'm finding I cannot do this transfer of the AKAI library (WorldWinds) to OASYS HD easily as you suggest.

The best I can come up with is:

- Clear a program and combi bank on my OASYS
- Clear out EXs packages temporarily
- Go into partition A on the WorldWind CD and upload one Partition full of AKAI programs and samples
- Then create a folder on the HD and save ALL to that, but only include the Program and Combi U-A bank (as well as all the samples).
- Then - power of the OASYS to comletely reset it sample-wise (for safety) and then initialise the U-A Program and Combi Banks, and then load up Parition B AKAI programs.... and so on.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean; but it certainly is not easy, or what I want beacuse what I'm saving is PCG files each containing several instruments (and its not clear if I can upload just one instrument and its associated samples - still need to try that). Either which way this is not building a neat replica of the AKAI library on CD; and is taking forever to load the samples, reboot etc. etc.

So I'd be very grateful for your detaile dsteps as to how you see it happening. Sorry to bother you on this; but it will be useful to everybody hoping to store AKAI format libraries on the OASYS HD.

Thanks,
Kevin.

Ok....
- Clear out EXs packages temporarily
Yep, ok your freeing up memory here.
- Go into partition A on the WorldWind CD and upload one Partition full of AKAI programs and samples
Ok, so your loading the 3 folders in that partition which in turn gets the OASYS to load quite a large number of files.
- Then create a folder on the HD and save ALL to that, but only include the Program and Combi U-A bank (as well as all the samples).
- Then - power of the OASYS to comletely reset it sample-wise (for safety) and then initialise the U-A Program and Combi Banks, and then load up Parition B AKAI programs.... and so on.
No.... you move into partition B and keep loading. You load the entire disk to memory partition by partition until there's nothing left to load. Only then do you save everything back to the HDD.
I'm not sure if this is what you mean; but it certainly is not easy
It's dead easy, your just loading the folders in each partition and when you have loaded the entire CD you save it back to the HDD. For the most part everything is automated.

or what I want beacuse what I'm saving is PCG files each containing several instruments (and its not clear if I can upload just one instrument and its associated samples - still need to try that).
Yeah, that's a KORG thing and their file management system. KORG don't make it easy to customise a library in their own format at all.

That's why I wrote the PC program KSC Gen for the OASYS ASSAULT library. It's the only KORG library that can be customised in seconds.

Maybe someday I'll write a universal version of KSC Gen.

Cheers
James
