M50 has so much better strings than X50.
Still, nothing can replace the BigStrings patch from X5(D)/N364.
Strings....

Those strings can't be found on X50, anyways
Still, M50 strings are very beautiful.

Ok, I don't want to start another topic so I join on this one, as I bought an M50 recently!
I'm loving it. The only thing I can't understand is: to write a program into memory, you always have to write it over an existing program?
Or maybe I'm lost in there?
Anyways, it's a lovely machine...

You can overwrite any combi/program, providing the combis/programs are not memory protected.(Global)
There's also empty USER slots for your own sounds.

Thanks for replying. I know that, which is what I find unusual.
When I write a program into the User slots, in fact it overwrites an existing preset available in preset Banks anyways. So when you create a sound, you have to erase an existing one in order to write it into memory.
There's no other way, besides writing into the SD card?

The thing is that when you overwrite an existing preset (combi or program), be sure not to overwrite it in the same location: choose an empty spot for that and you'll preserve the original one. New combis/programs are stored in the M50, even if you turn off the keyboard. On the SD card you can backup whatever you want to.

I see... sorry if I'm going too off topic.
At the end of bank E there are only 32 empty spots. Is that all?

It has always been like that in Korg Keyboards... everything is overwritable and in some boards you just have to overwrite... I suggest that you go through the sounds of your M50 and think "do I need this one... or this one... or this one" and keep only the sounds you think you'll need... then you will have lots of room to save your own sounds... you can always make a backup save to SD card and load some allready overwritten program back

Yes, that's all there is on the board itself. And if you load the "Vintage Keys" programs (highly recommended!), then you're down to zero. So you'll have to make use of the SD card...

I see gentlemen. Thanks for making it clear.
Well it's not all bad, at least I know there are some presets I wouldn't use... it's good being able to wipe them...
and I'll use the SD card too, of course.

I ended up getting on vs the M3 today because I couldn't justify twice the price (even though it has x/y on touch screen, aftertouch, more patches, etc... and I am out of work) and figured this would do the job for my own projects for now. Maybe I'll get an M3 rack down the road but it has some cool sounds, decent functions/etc.
