"go to the global mode screen and select the input device, select volume and there she goes."

I realize this post is from 2010 but if anyone can help. The note was to go to Global mode and select the input device. I can't find anywhere where one chooses the device. I have chosen Master Volume. Volume, and Expression and then saved the global settings and the pedal doesn't affect anything. I'm using boss pedal with a stereo cable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

trouble shoot the EXP.

The crucial things are

(1) exp "wah" variable pedal is correctly inserted into the EXP jack (no place else),

(2) correct cable for your pedal is being used -- EXP wants a stereo cable but not all pedals can effectively use a R/T/S cable (and hey, the cable works right.. not a 20 year old rescue from your "I never use these cables" reject pile?),

(3) that the EXP is assigned to a variable under the Global Controller menu or has been assigned as a mod source to control a parameter in a select program or combi (AFAIK there is no program or effect that is actually preset or designed to USE the expression pedal by default - Korg just doesn't count on you having this option as is does a sustain pedal -- factory provided and always programmed for),

(4) that the potential of the pedal is matched to the EXP (the control potentiometer of the wah-type pedal has to match the expected max/min values) and finally,

(5) that the EXP jack is actually working.

You may have 1 and 5 covered, the gray area is 2-3-4. Right off the bat using a Boss (Roland) pedal with a Korg keyboard would be my prime suspect (see 4). There's more than just profit-motivated selfishness in Korg's recommending you use their pedals in their gear.

If you have the time, you might want to take your board to a retailer and try EXP pedals til you find one that works. Another maker's pedal may do the trick - the boss doesn't appear to be cutting it, at least not as you are running it now.

If nothing works then reason 5 - busted jack - may be the problem. That particular board takes a lot of abuse via the sustain pedal jack.

As for point 3, master volume, cc#7 volume and cc#11 should work without any additional programming.
