DAMN! There went my evening. I just spent the last 3½ hours playing with these sounds! At first, I was thinking "okay, nice organs and some superb synth basses." (I especially like Velocity Filter LPF.) The Mist Singing Softly and Lamb's Harp immediately caught my attention.
Then I got to some of the sweeps, like Prismatic 5ths and Rez Calming Down. Nice!
However, I best like the motion synths, like Bada Bing, Trance Groove Motion and some others.
The best for last - the Combis! I'm kind of so so about combis, but some of these were just fantastic. I'll have to go through them again, but the string stacks were strong, as were many of the synth layers. The KARMA Wave Sequencing on Grungelator Multipad creates some really cool vocals from the Organ patch! It took me a while to figure it out. Awesome! I really loved playing with Guitar Stories and U GOT GAME ?, which uses a strong double drum beat, was just plain fun.
Too many faves to list, right now. I'm pretty stoked about some of these programs. And, yes, a "thankyou" to Korg. Since the OASYS was discontinued, I really wasn't expecting anything more. I'll take it!
Yes indeed. Thanks for the very unexpected update. Even though as Korg mention in the readme file this is a minor update, it is appreciated, and further to my recent rantings, any update is worthy of a thankyou.
Now, if only they will do another "minor" update to include VST support, Sysex implementation, Sequencer update, etc. Worth a try, haha.
Cheers Mike for the initial review of the sounds too. I haven't had time to try them yet but hope to have a play later on today
Thanks for all the nice comments - but the thanks go to all of you for your purchases and continued support of the mighty OASYS. We're pleased to get you these new sounds and all we ask is that you make some great music with them. And post some examples from time to time!
I'll add one cool detail that we didn't promote per se...
The new CX-3 organs were made in conjunction with organ great John Novello:
he has a unique approach to getting his organ sound, mixing real Rotary Speaker with some distortion effects and more. It was a real learning experience for Jack Hotop and myself to work with him.
As Mike said, the new programs & combis are astonishingly good.
They're not a collection of half-finished leftovers -- they're very polished and on par with the factory sounds. Great reminder of what an awesome and powerful synth this is.
Bang on! That's exactly how I feel about the new Programs and Combi's - there's real depth to these.
As well as all Mike has pointed out, I also love:
- 1st two electric pianos - especially adding a little vibrato or wah-wah from the joystick and lovking it in with SW1. These are really cool.
- STR Basses are magnificent
- AL-1 Basses are equally great
- Don't forget to use the the controllers on the AL-1 pads and leads in particular - great effects built into aftertouch, ribbon controller and vector joystick (including great ring modulation on one of them).
Jerry - thanks again - and great to hear that the CX-3 programs have been programmed by John Novello - some of these are incredible and really inspire you to play and improvise.
Awesome news! Frankly, I was quite content with what I had to date. Now, this is just a bit more icing for my OASYS Cake. Looks like I have some work ahead of me to determine if/where any of these new programs will fit into the new combis I have already programmed. As always: Hats off to KORG.
Cheers,
Jim
