My M50 serial number 00006414. Purchased fall 2009.

Started acting funny about a month or two after I bought it (freezing up, nothing would work).
Took it in for repair under warranty. Seems ok now.
I posted this original problem under another thread.

hi everybody, just to write the end of the story...

I have sent my m50 to Korg Italy tech assistance, they kept it for about 4 weeks and finally get the right capacitors from Korg to be placed in m50 in substitution of original ones.

now my m50 works (finally) again as before.

very strange to heard, tech assistance reports they weren't able to replicate the freezing of the board... quite strange since it happens to as soon as i turn on m50 both at home and at rehearsal

My wife's SN is 14673. Recently, her M50-61 has been freezing more frequently.

It froze several times at a gig, last night. This morning, I plugged it in, at home, to see if the problem was related to the venue's dirty power. At the very first power-up, this morning, the M50 froze and had to be restarted.

It's getting worse and worse, so I'm sure the caps need to be replaced, as well.

This is very disappointing.

Very bad news, because your SN is very high, so it also happens to more recently units.
100% hardware made. All is done in a Korg M50 internal sequencer. Now updated (7/09/12) at http://www.hispasonic.com/akmon

Post by haleyeahproject »

How exactly do you install the update for these problems. I have just about had it with this keyboard!!! I do lots of shows using live loops with kaoss Pads and i love love love korg but this is turning me to the darkside of the company. So if there is any remedy to this solution, please please please give me a laymen's point of view. My serial # is 003707.. Thank you!!

you have to bring back m50 to local korg tech assistance and they will replace some bad capacitors with new ones.

unfortunately, so far neither korg nor any assistance center had explained exactly which capacitor are to be changed, so a Do-It-Yourself repairing seems to be not possible...

Wow, SN 14673 showing the problem!
That's high.

My brother wants to get one like mine (M50). How is he supposed to know if he is getting a good one?
How do we know that the problem has been solved?
I think Korg should replace the Caps REGARDLESS of when the problem pops up, or have a service bulletin out so people can take their units to the nearest service center to get it fixed as a recall.

My M50 is SN 5580....

I have had freezes but it was always related to other MIDI equipment connected and sending the M50 some bad signals make sure all your devices are setup properly... do all of you have these freezes while your M50 is working alone or connected to a MIDI network?

My M50 works perfect while used properly... Just a thought.

My M50 is #017807. It freezes every time I unplug it to move it somewhere else. If I turn it on and off step by step, it works fine, if not, it freezes, and needs to be shut down and powered again.

I'm taking it to tech service in a week or two (they are on vacation)
Gear: Korg M50, Korg Monotron, Kurzweil KP-1, Boss FS-5U.
