Here's a case withe the 88 keys version:

I had this problem ONCE with my M50-88, about 1 month after I bought it (Dec 2008).
Serial No. is 550.
I use it a lot, virtually every day at home, & moving it around to rehearsals/gigs at least once a week.
It has never happened since..... but I'm now starting to wonder if I should have the dealer look at it -
before the warranty runs out

, mmmmm.
.
My serial number is over 10.000, so that's probably safe. I guess that's at least one advantage in buying an unit in South America (for + than 1500 U$S).

Replacement of bad capacitors or whatever faulty (by design) hardware, not user related, should be fixed for free by KORG worldwide, regardless warranty status.
Apple acknowledged a bad compound with their white Macbooks (crackings in the casing, etc.) and took responsibility for swapping / fixing faulty units, way after warranty was over.

Never with the M50-61, latest OS.
I've had it for less than a year though, & don't use it everyday, but when I do use it - I do so for hours + hours. Hopefully you will get this sorted out, if it ever happens to me, I will inform Korg asap!

hi everybody, just to write the end of the story...
I have sent my m50 to Korg Italy tech assistance, they kept it for about 4 weeks and finally get the right capacitors from Korg to be placed in m50 in substitution of original ones.
now my m50 works (finally) again as before.
very strange to heard, tech assistance reports they weren't able to replicate the freezing of the board... quite strange since it happens to as soon as i turn on m50 both at home and at rehearsal

I got a frozen middle C yesterday after playing it with as fast as I could repeatedly. Where is the panic button?

Guys! I was thinking that will be a good idea, when somebody will post about freezing and other problems, to write the serial number of their M50, in order to gather more info about this problem....
Regards.

In the editor there is a 'All sound off' function, so the shortcut must be found, but the function exists. I'd try Exit, Locate, Pause, etc.
Regarding the serial number thread, it already exists on this forum.
M50 - 88 Freezing

I have an M50 -88 and I am experiencing the same freezing issues as the 61 owners. Sometimes it will freeze everytime I turn it on and then other times I can go for a couple of weeks without issue.
There doesn't seem to be any external reason for the freezing. If I play it it will freeze. If I let it sit while being on but not being played it will freeze. Of course my warranty was up 5 days ago and this problem just started.
If anyone has a fix or knows what this problem is (even if it is hardware) please post it as I'm not opposed to opening this thing up and replacing things if I know what I need.

Post your serial number
here, that could give a clue about the problem and the way of fixing it.

my m50 has been fixed changing a couple of capacitors by Korg Assistance here in Italy. anyway i have read also from other on the forum that the m50 freezing problem is due to capacitors failure especially on models with very low SN.

Hi all, mine is gone to Korg it was unusable with both 1.0.3+1.1.0 firmware
, how I hadn't thrown it out a window is a miracle...... I would often cycle through 5 or 6 start ups to get it to work........ I would get this " updating right panel" and " updAting left panel" then "turn off power" and still nothing totally frozen, mine is an early 61, Korg uk have it now shipped at my expense from the retailer.

I have a 73 and just started to freeze about 2 weeks ago in the middle of a performance (imagine).
Please advice. What´s the next step? Send it directly to the service center or what?

in my case it starts with some freeze each 2-3 gigs than they become more and more frequent till it was impossible to have the m50 turn on correctly.
i tried to re-install latest OS, to downgrade to previous one but nothing changed.
so my suggestion is to contact directly your local korg dealer and follow his/her instruction for sending m50 to korg tech center.
in my case i brought the m50 in the same shop where i bought it and they manage everything. after a month i have m50 back perfectly working with two capacitors changed.
