Since the extra multisounds (samples, waveforms) are in there (hence multisound numbers go beyond 99), it could only be a program card that goes into the top slot of the M1 (PCM expansion is on the back - I don't know the videos you guys have referred to here and hence I don't know where the visible card was plugged, either). I can imagine that an extra card contained combis and programs so that the originals can be left untouched, but I guess you could load those extra programs into the internal memory, as well. Unfortunately I don't know whether or not and extra card was included with the EX upgrade, but having the extra sounds is what the most important would be (as you also alluded to it), program data is something one's likely to tweak, anyways.
Therefore I'd consider having multisounds without program data much more of a viable combination than the other way around. If there was a card, its content is likely available somewhere on the net and must be possible to load it into a regular M1 RAM card, if internal programs and combinations are to be preserved.
