I like this one. Another fun thing to try is throw on a video game, muted, and see if you can compose a score/tune for it. I once had my friend throw on some space PC game, i think it was Homeworld, and I fired up my kaossilators and made some nice eerie space tunes, with sound effects included.

most song simply start out with beat number one.

Many songs play the last 4-16 bars as the intro to the song.

when all that fails try a fade in, or SFX's.
