The Plot Thickens
I got an email from my Houston office today.
They flagged my order after it had already been shipped -- those idiots!
I canceled my order because they wanted me to FAX them my banking & photo ID information. I said "Hell no!" Cancel the damned order!
They did.
1. They had not yet taken any money from my account, apparently.
2. So I've got this thing FREE!
3. Can you believe these idiots?
A. Ship the order.
B. Flag the order.
C. Ask me to FAX (from SE ASia) my photo ID, cc info.
D. I cancel the order.
E. Order arrives in the mail.
Thank you so much Korg USA/Shopatron -- you idiots! You just lost $120!
Of course, if they ask me to pay -- I will. But I have a feeling those bozos
won't even notice.
And they would have to ask. They've notified Paypal my order was canceled. The Mastercard I used was from Paypal.
Ha! Ha!"> BTW received a small package from Korg addressed to you -"

they will probably bill you later. they don't usually bill until the item ships. it's most likely pending on your account.
they've got the payment information...
keep us posted as to what happens.

You may be right. We'll see.
But in this case, they shipped before they billed me.
Then, after they shipped but before they could bill me,
the idiots asked me to FAX them my personal info including cc & photo ID
and proof of my address!
I talked to them on the phone and said I'm not gonna do that.
Ask me whatever you want. But you're nuts if you think I'm going
to fax you that information.
So they sent me a notice canceling the order.
I don't mind paying. But if I pay, are these idiots
going to ask me to send them another fax w/all my
personal financial & residential information? Will they want
another stupid photo ID?
That won't happen. If they want me to pay, I'm happy to do it.
But I'm not going to send them a stupid Fax with my sensitive info on it.
I already tried to pay them once.
You know they also wanted proof of my address?
They wanted a bill or something I receive at my US address.
Can you imagine? They mentioned a utility bill sent to my home!
The stupid bozos.

they only do it to verify identity. (I think it's random), but at the same time, I've been told that they do it on large orders and some first time buyers.

Well...maybe they should learn to do that --- BEFORE they ship the goods.apex wrote:they only do it to verify identity. (I think it's random), but at the same time, I've been told that they do it on large orders and some first time buyers.
The idiots.
And why can't this be verified in a less intrusive way?
Isn't it stupid to require me to FAX -- no telephone call -- no on-line form -
- no email -- but FAX my private financial & residential information to
them.
It is stupid. But more important, it is risky for the customer.
They tested me for one reason. I ordered from outside the US -- in SE
Asia. But they are really stupid in the way they go about this.
I called them. I was happy to give them whatever information they
asked for. But there is no way in Hell I'm faxing the information they
wanted. That's insane.

what you aren't understanding is that I could have gotten your information out of a garbage can or any other way people get information when they commit identity theft and then call them and give them all the information, but what are the chances that i've got your valid license etc... and am willing to fax it in?... not likelygurn wrote:Well...maybe they should learn to do that --- BEFORE they ship the goods.apex wrote:they only do it to verify identity. it's done to protect you. and it's not really stupid. they are a company. you contacted them. they asked for information to get past their security policy. it's actually a very simple process. doesn't take long either.
it's not like korg called you out of the blue and asked for this info. it's technically no different than any time you call your bank, or your cell phone company, or utility company, or credit card company, etc.... they make you verify who you say you are.
the only difference, is korg doesn't have your information in a computer to use to verify your information. they want to make sure that the things match up. shipping address credit card/debit card billing address....
could be that the reason you got flagged was because your shipping address was different than the billing address of the card you used to pay. (billing address meaning place they send your bill or place they send your monthly statement.)
don't be mad because they are trying to protect you!!! some people do actually steal peoples information and purchase things online and have them shipped to themselves...
ever heard the term, a few bad apples can spoil the whole bunch?!!?!?!?!?!?

My order was flagged because of where I ordered from. That's obvious.apex wrote:

There were no discrepancies in my addresses. I stay on-top of my Paypal
account activity. I'm a Paypal Vendor. There have been hundreds of my
transactions all over the world through that account.
There is nothing to flag -- except where I ordered from.
If I were using a proxy server, it probably wouldn't have happened.
And next time - I will use a proxy server - if there is a next time.
And I have no problem with that. I have a problem with the idiots
requesting me to FAX them some vey sensitive information. I have a
problem with idiots period. And they handled this stupidly by any measure.
1. First, they accepted my debit card.
2. Then, they shipped the order.
3. Then they flagged the order & requested I send them a stupid
FAX with my sensitive information on it.
4. Then they canceled the order when I wouldn't send them the stupid fax.
5. Then, the item arrived in my office.
That's a stupid way to do business. It would be more intelligent to flag
the order before they ship it. Wouldn't it?
That's what I do in my business. Do you know why?
I do it that way because I'm not an idiot.
And yes - Martin Hines. I intend to pay for it. I need to verify
what's in the box. But when I do -- I'll call these idiots back again
and offer to pay them what I tried to pay them in the first place!
But are they going to pull the same stupid routine again?
Will I have to FAX them my personal info --- including proof of my
residential address, even after they've already delivered the card to me?
I have no problem calling them up and paying them. And I will do that.
And when I do -- I will also tell them exactly what I think of this
transaction. I will tell them they are idiots.
So there are two ways this transaction can turn out.
1. They take my payment -- I tried to give them in the first place,
without me having to send a stupid FAX with my personal information.
2. Or they insist I give them my personal information, even after they've
already delivered the damned card to me & they won't get paid -- period.
BTW, I'm a lawyer. So they can sue me over failing to fax them my sensitive information.
Go ahead! I've already paid them once.
The idiots refused to deposit it! They wanted more.
They wanted a FAX with sensitive information on it!
The card in fact, was delivered to my law office. Duh!
Sue me Shop-a-tron. Not only will you lose. You will end up paying my
legal fees. And you will be laughed out of court.
Let's see if we can ramp this idiocy up a bit higher Korg USA/Shopatron.
Judge: (To Shopatron's lawyer)
"So what happened here?"
Korg USA/Shop-a-tron:
"Well, your honor, he didn't fax us proof of who he was.
Judge: "Did he pay you?"
Shopatron: "He gave us his debit card info."
Judge: "Was his debit card valid?"
Shopatron: "Yes your honor"
Judge: "Did he authorize you to take the money from his account?
Shopatron: "Yes your honor"
Judge: "So he paid you. Then what happened?
Shopatron: "We requested he fax us some information to verify
his identity."
Judge: "You'd already shipped the product"
Shopatron: "That's correct your honor."
Judge: "If there was a question about his identity, why did you do ship the product?"
Shopatron: "It was a mistake your honor,".
Judge: "Did you deposit the payment he gave you?"
Shopatron: "No your honor. We held it because we needed to verify his info."
Judge: "So he paid you. You shipped the product. You refused to deposit
his payment because he refused to send you a fax. Is that right?
Shopatron: Yes your honor.
Judge: "Then you canceled his order. Has he offered to pay you again?"
Shopatron: "Yes your honor,"
Judge: "Did you accept his payment the second time? "
Shopatron: No your honor. We want still want him to fax us his personal information to us".
Defendant (my lawyer): "Your honor, I move this case be dismissed. We have tried to pay these people twice and we'll pay them right here. But my client refuses to FAX these people his sensitive information.
We also move the court award $1250 in costs and reasonable attorney's fees that my client had to spend to fight this idiotic lawsuit.".
Judge: "Defendant's motion granted. Korg USA is granted $120 to be paid by Defendant. Shopatron/Korg USA will pay Defendant's reasonable attorney's fees and is enjoined from seeking anything further from this Defendant in this transaction."
Come on, make my day.
If they're smart enough to take the first option, they'll be taking the
money I tried to give them in the first place. And they won't be getting
the personal information they tried to extract post hoc from me.
But they will get a bonus, because I am going to give them a piece of my mind.
The stupid twits!
