Should you also be angry at Apple for including all the VSTis in Logic when formerly you had to buy them separately? In my not so humble opinion, in this industry you pay not for some timeless investment, but for a function that puts you ahead of the competition for a while. If you don't manage to cash on that in the time it takes for others to catch up, it's your loss. Musicians tend to make money with the gear they buy.
I would agree that it is unequal if there is a very short time between buying and it becoming free. But from what I've read in here, the last official Oasys update was in 2009, the Kronos was announced in January 2011 and they seem to be even offering a transitional arrangement for if you bought your unlocks late.
That said, it's not my wallet, so I understand it's easy for me to say right now. Just trying to put a perspective on things - I don't think this is such a huge and evil marketing fluke as you make it out to be.

Yes. Unlocking MOD-7, PolySix/MS-20 and EXs3 Brass/Woodwinds allows you to play the sounds without the "rolling fadeouts." Korg lets you audition them all, but you pay for the code to get rid of the fadeouts.SanderXpander wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the benefit of having had an unlocked Oasys for some time now, simply "that you were able to use all those sounds and features"?
To me, this all makes sense because people can now buy/trade OASYS units and never have to register at Korguser.net. No need to "transfer ownership" or worry if the OASYS will play certain engines or not. It's less housekeeping for the owners and for Korg.
Well if it's true....then I'm happy
Sorry to all those who did buy them, but we all got screwed over with Kronos,so as much as many of you are pissed that you paid to unlock the extra engines, for me it felt bad marketing on Korgs behalf to expect any of us to pay for those given how much it cost to buy the machine in the first place and refused to pay anymore for such a commodity, sometimes patience pays off in this case, perhaps we as Oasys owners have learnt a valuable lesson and some twice in this case
However you see it at last they are acknowledging how many are left with essentially a half baked workstation at least this kind of softens the blow for some of us who refused to pay for them out of principle

There is a big difference between forgoing additional revenue (by giving away OASYS EXis) versus giving back revenue you already collected, perhaps collected years ago.cello wrote:Which then begs the question - what is on offer for the O users who bought the engines and spent more money on their O than those that didn't unlock the engines?
Seems like those who didn't spend extra money are getting extra value from this deal... just sayin'.
Given some of the recent layoffs at Korg, I don't see them rolling in money at the moment.
As a former OASYS owner (who purchased all of the EXis and bought my OASYS 88 at full price) I think this is a nice gesture. I feel Korg has no obligation to compensate OASYS owners who paid for these EXis in the past.

FWIW....I got the same letter today. LAC1, Mod 7, EXs3...all free.
And it clearly states: We are preparing optional sound libraries for KRONOS which will be on sale very soon.
So Korg is hard at work.....and the development continues. I think this is amazing of Korg.

More importantly, does this mean all OASYS owners who seem to constantly cry that Korg screwed them will be quiet once and for all now?
Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha).
OK
Well 1st off , I'm somewhat in the middle because I paid for Lac-1 and that's it , so i will benefit by getting MOD-7 and EX3 for free . So that part is great and think it's a nice gesture by Korg
but I have had a change of heart about this when i think about all Oasys owners . I can see why someone may be pissed if they paid for them all .
Korg is probably going to release something very very nice for the Kronos , specially with all of the competition out there like the jupiter-80 who's on the prowl like a hungry cheetah but I'm sure Korg planned this all along.
So the reason Korg is releasing these sounds is not because they care but for damage control .They know when Oasys owners see what Kronos is going to get there going to be pissed .

Oasys owners do not be fooled aging , this is not the real story .
The real story is this ------>
Why in the HELL did the Oasys not get the SGX-1 and EP-1 acoustic and electric pianos ?
The Oasys was built to run theses programs . I don't want a discount to by a Kronos , I want the EXi's you said you would give the Oasys as you develop them , Korg did say that , yes they did .
So Korg lied and it's FU*ked Up!
Any body remember this (listen carefully at 1:25 to 1:45 )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQJhpWvqqK4
So Korg if you really want to do right by Oasys
give it the SGX-1 and EP-1. It's the only true way to make all Oasys owners happy with this .
I would like to here from Dan to tell us how hard would that be .
So Dan (or any other expert on Korg technology here ) how hard would it be for Korg to give the Oasys the SGX-1 and EP-1 pianos ?

You are freaking kidding me. So if they give you THE PIANOS for free, you'll probably say you want a free SSD. And if you get that, are you just going to ask for a free Kronos?Rocness wrote:Ok here we go.......
