1 year ago i decided to paint the wood of my korg poly-61. i took it apart, removed the grey stuff from the side panels, sanded it and painted. after i put it back together.... dead. opened it up again and wassnt able to see or fix the problem. but i left it on the stand and be depressed about it. after a few months i decided to open it up again. and guess what.... when i lifted the front, i saw that i was forgotten to connect the 2 wires to the on/off button on the back.
I smiled and feld an idiot at the same time. connected the wires and the poly-61 worked again.

The first kb I opened was my Novation controller, aside from being very meticulous about every parts I drop my coffee inside it!

Years ago when MIDI was newish and I was young, I was in my local department store, looking for a new cheap Hi-Fi and saw all these ones described as Midi.

Asking the shop assistant how these connect up to my synth and what was achievable if I did this was, thinking back, amusing. I think he thought I'd been let out for the day

I saw a review in a top flight music mag in the UK a year ago. It talked about the coming of the most amazing synth ever - so good in fact it would incorprate 9 syths within its sleek lines.

I went to my local music dealer and he confirmed they'd be arriving in a month or two (March 2011 at the latest he said). He clearly stated that none of the knobs would fall off, the sliders would not be rickety, the keys would not stick, not only would it start up faster than a 20 year old PC running Windows 2000 it would never fail to start.

Oh yeah, and it would come with a great editor.

Dumb-ass me, I ordered one on the spot.

Even with Hammonds, there are desirable models (Tonewheels) and worthless models (non-tonewheels).

Yes that's true, but this was a Tonewheel organ.

Strange music dealer that he didn't know that it would start up faster than a 20 year old PC. For other items: you have (or had but didn't use) the right to return it, but probably you are satisfied with it to keep it.

A Yamaha rep told me about a Jazz player back in the day who bought a DX7. He thought the pitch bend wheel was for tuning to the band. Since the wheel kept snapping back to center, he used to tape to hold it in place.

A studio owner told me about a guy who bought a pair of speakers at a yard sale. He gets home and can't wait to play them for his wife. He tells her to get really close so she can hear them. He then takes the bare speaker wires and sticks them into an AC outlet. She thought he was trying to kill her! Then he brings them to the studio owner for repair.
