Just listened to symphony of voices and it's superb.

However :)

While there has been a huge amount of work in making/recording it and while the price may well be fine for those making money out of the music profession,

Buying Cubase was a huge purchase for me and is way out of many peoples budget.

Komplete ultimate was another major purchase for me.

When I get a Kronos, it will be my largest purchase so far.

I can warrant buying the above as each gives me a vast software/hardware toolkit for making music that I use every day.

There's no way on this planet that I could ever warrant spending $500 on one vocal collection of samples that while nice, does not fall into the catogory of something I will use every day. I know many others also can't warrant this sort of money on a sample set.

I do appreciate how good it is and how much work was involved, but can't help wonder if they wouldn't make a lot more money if they sold it at a LOT less.

10 people being able to afford it at $500 brings in $5000
100 people being able to afford buying it at $100 brings in $10000

I do realise that the $5000 and $10000 figures aren't all profit before someone mentions it :)

Akai files are bound to the original Akai cd file format, as far as I know.
You can't have them on USB stick unless you convert them to a common file format.

But why don't you use an external CD/DVD reader to import them?

hi Jim,

I've not got an external CD.DVD (yet) as was wondering if you could do them from USB. Are there any "special" CD/DVD drives required, or will any normal external drive work?

Edit: i read the manual and says """KRONOS supports three CD‐R/RW formats: UDF, CDDA
(audio CDs) and ISO9660 (level 3)."""

How expensive are these?.

Thanks for your reply

Tony

I have an older LG drive, which works well.

Perhaps some of the other users with newer drives, actually available and in use with their Kronos, could chime in here.
An external drive should not cost more than ~30-50$.

I've used them extensively with Kronos, and they are a virtual treasure chest of awesome sonic content. Produced by Spectrasonics and Eric Persing years before Omnisphere (or Atmosphere) was ever released. Yet most of the content of these discs remains prominent in Omnisphere, and truly reflects its often signature sound.
+1

The original Akai libraries had some excellent sounds too - but you have to dig around for them - a few acoustic guitars, oboes, cellos etc - recorded at air studios iirc...

Thanks Waveform, will look at that. Did it come with a USB cable (bit short on those) :?

Yes - cable is included - just long enough to place it to the left of a Kronos 61.
As I said before, it is bus powered, and interestingly, it has a "double" USB cable for laptops that may not provide enough power via a single usb port.

Works just fine on the Kronos with the single cable though!
