SGX-1

I love these pianos. I auditioned the Roland V-Piano and the Yamaha CP1. For me, the Kronos is more lifelike, expressive and just plain a joy to play. I would have bought it even if all I wanted was a digital piano. The fact that I get an amazing workstation and 8 other engines is icing on the cake!

Yeah SGX-1 is one of the best out there for sure, though I played Roland V-Grand. I must say its the closest thing to a real piano I have ever played. In everyway way, blew my mind 0_0. I dont know why Korg dont do stuff like that! would be great.

In fact the V-grand was so good if I was going to be a grand piano, if you actually be in my list of choice with the acoustic pianos.

Yeah, plisken, it's really hard to understand why Korg doesn't have something as one of their 9 synth engines, at not much more than half the price for all of them, compared to a V-Piano from Roland, which costs 7000$ alone.

If you divide the price for a KronosX 88 by 9 (engines), then you get the sound of the fantastic SGX-1 Pianos at a price of around 450$, compared to 7000$ for the V-Piano. Sounds like a fair comparison to me.

yeah, well you cant really cut the price up like that. None of the engines actually cost anything themselves. Other then the R&D that went in to them, but most were already on the Oasys so there wasnt much of that to bring it to the Kronos im guessing.

Its the hardware and work putting it together and shipped that make up a lot of the cost. Also the profit margins when it comes to pro keyboards like the Kronos are massive. I dont know how much but im pretty sure all the parts of the Kronos probably cost around 1000 max. A lot of it is off the shelf bought in bulk pricing probably.

So for them to make something like the V-Piano quality it will probably cost around the same if not more then roland. Because roland have been making pianos like that since the 70's. They have everything needed. Korg have not made any at all ever!

Also I was talking about the V-Piano Grand. it cost 20,000!

fantastic !!!

i've played on the v-piano and i absolutely love it (also the keyboard action). But it was to expensive for me, but it's dynamics and sound is the best i've heard in a virtual piano.

The V-Piano probably the best thing Roland did in the last years. And like Korg, they will profit from the reasearch and be able to offer it at reduced costs and price at some point in the next years.

But as it is now, no matter how you calculate, the price/value relation ist still much better in a Kronos SGX-1 then in a V-Piano or V-Piano Grand. For the average mutipurpose keyboarder this price difference simply doesn't pay, and I rarely see someone adding a V-Piano to their gear, instead of using the Pianos available in their other synths and/or stage pianos. For pianists it may be worth a consideration.

Still don't have my Kronos, but plan to pick one up eventually (after the dust from revamping the rest of my little studio settles). I guess I can't really vote at this point (!), but the two engines I'm most looking forward to are SGX-1 and MOD-7...

I love the AL-1. I play a lot of covers from all eras and I haven't come across a sound I haven't been able to reproduce with this one yet. Also love the Polysix.

I find myself playing alot of EP parts as the part I play live in my sequences, so I would have to say its the EP-1; but I sincerly like them all.

Only had my Kronos for one week and love it! I love everything apart from the organ. I think my Nord Stage 2 just has 'it'!

Can't choose between the Pianos! Really like them both... I thought the Nord was the best, after upgrading from a Yammy CP33 - now I'm kinda in between... time will tell, I suppose!

Love the AL1 and the MOD7 too. Not much that I can't coax it into doing so far!

I never had a real PolySix but did have a Juno60 which I regret selling every gig! Don't really know if that's a good comparison...?

Almost everything on the Kronos is beyond amazing. I appreciate having CX-3 along for the ride, simply because not having an organ model on such a capable instrument would be unthinkable. I can get it to sound pretty good. But AL-1 is a dream synth for me. Extremely powerful, flexible and great sounding.

HD-1 and MOD-7 are tied for second, even though all those well made samples are essential in a workstation, and though I'm hardly a master at FM programming as our friend Basari is.

For creating sounds from scratch, the Polysix and then the MS-20. I'm old school. I need to tweak knobs to build my sounds. I do understand that essentially the other synths can do more possibly but for me it's the GUI that gets me.
If music is the food of love, play on and play loud!
