Hello folks:
I'm a little bit mystified, for I too have been having this problem. What is it you mean by 'saving in a root directory'? I seem to be able so save only in directories that I have created; and, when I do so, I get the 'unable to save file' message. In what directory should I be saving, if not the one that was created to house the song and the various WAV files that go with it?
Thanks,
Stephen
Keep getting unable to save message.

I'm sorry that this was confusing, and I'm glad that you found a solution.CoreyMast wrote:With some more experimenting I think I figured out the reason why. I was trying to save the file into a folder inside of a folder.
I believe in the manual somewhere it said this was not possible with sequences with .wav files.
Once I tried saving it into a root directory no problems. When I tried to move or resave it into the folder it was unable.
Hope I save somebody else a day of trying to figure that out lol
The Operation Guide has a handy section in the Appendix, "Error and confirmation messages," which explains all of the error messages and suggests resolutions. "Unable to save" is there. The cause is close to what you've guessed: there is a limitation to the length of file paths. Directories can be nested, but the name of each nested directory adds to the length of the file path. The Operation Guide suggests:
"• Rename the file and/or directories so that the file path fits within 76 characters. This includes the file name and the names of all parent directories up to the root level of the disk."

Hello Dan:
Many thanks for your kind reply. Given that there is no hard copy of the Operation Guide, it never actually occurred to me to search through the PDF. I am left to wonder whether I can be trusted with an instrument as complex and wonderful as the Korg KRONOS. I do wish that Korg would produce a hard copy, although I realise that it is the trend these days to put most of the manuals on disc, saving paper and all that, but I have owned every Korg workstation since the O1/W (bar the M3) and have always looked forward to browsing through the manual.
Back to the topic at hand, it also never occurred to me that the problem would be as simple as the length of the file path name. Again, it might be handy for a future update of the OS to include the reason for the error in the text of the error message itself. So, for example, in this case "Unable to save file because the file path name will be too long" might help. Then, I shorten the name and Bob's yer Uncle, job done, bish bash bosh, etc.
It says something of the mighty power of the instrument that people like me can only find such minor quibbles with it to get in such a stew about.
Cheers,
Stephen

Personally, I *far* prefer PDF manuals to print:Stephen Butler wrote:Hello Dan:

* Text searches are exceptionally useful
* Hyperlinked cross-references and table of contents entries, at least within the same document, go directly to the reference - no page-thumbing necessary
* It's easy to distribute updated versions to everyone, free of charge; the KRONOS manuals are now on version 5
* Easy to access: I have a folder on my music computer with all of my manuals, and the same folder on my i-devices
While it takes a little searching, all of this info is also in the KRONOS's built-in Help system.
I agree.Stephen Butler wrote: it might be handy for a future update of the OS to include the reason for the error in the text of the error message itself.

Dan, I agree with you wholeheartedly about the PDF vs. hard copy thing, but there's one thing I haven't told you which is not related to this or any other topic, to my knowledge, on the KRONOS forum, and that is this:
When you open a freshly-unwrapped Operation Guide, flick through the pages for the first time, you find what is more or less the middle of the document, and stick your face in it. Then, you take a deep breath...and smell.
There's nothing like it.
Cheers,
Stephen
