I'm so glad I posted this thread. You all have given me great comfort in knowing that the concept works. I'm going to spend my time now adding more content and making everything look pretty for the presentation Friday.

Thank you..!!!!

Hi chilly7

Thanks for the offer. I may actually talk you up on that too. My guess it that it would take very little to compile them to run on the Mac. Unencrypted and unpacked, they should work right now.

Yeah me too. But I suspect I'll be begging for it when I buy my new laptop with Windows 8.

That's what I'm planning to do. Unfortunately they install Windows 8 on all the recent laptops now. So I'll just buy Windows 7 and load it on. I was reading a review for a Samsung laptop (can't remember the model now) and they said apparently they had changed the bios to stop people from installing a new OS. That's shockingly bad. But I'm sure it won't be long before people find a work around.

Yea. I got lucky. I got a netbook about 6 months ago (HP) and it had 7 on it. Bit tentative about trying Win 8 even on my main music PC.

Dont rock the boat if all is working well I say.!

I read online today that Microsoft will be releasing an update that allows you to boot Win8 direct into the traditional desktop, bypassing the tile interface, and the START button will return.

If that happens, you would have a faster OS that does everything Win7 does.

I read that there was something you could download made by a third party company that gives you the option of creating a desktop just like previous versions of Windows. But if Windows are doing a version themselves then even better. It doesn't surprise me. Apparently new computer purchases have dropped by 15% this year which can't just be a coincidence that it coincides with the release of Windows 8.

Ouch, that's a lot. Windows 8 on a non-touch screen device is an awful experience. It's beautiful to use on a touch screen Table though.

If the start button returns, problem solved. Win8 already has the desktop.

Sharp.

Here's a company that brings the start menu back. Looks like there's lots of other companies that make similar products.

From experience, you should jump one windows version eacht time a new comes out.
This has been since Win3.11:
Win95 was mediocre
W98: OK
W-Me:
W-XP: OK (my actual private PC)
W-Vista:
W7: OK (at work)
W8:

So it is better to stay with W7 or wait for W9.

For my private use I will not bother anymore about this since my next desk/laptop will come from Apple
