What you want is to hook up the Kronos the way you would hook it up to a normal computer, so you can use the audio and midi and send to/from the iPad. You need the camera connection kit for that.
Seems that the original Apple CCK does not have a lightning interface and also no USB interface.

Do you mean this one?

The original Apple CCK had a 30-pin connector to a USB interface. Obviously you need something with Lightning (like I do), so yes, the current Camera Connection Kit with Lightning is what you should get. And a regular usb cable.

Thanks a lot :D

This will help me to avoid a lot of stressful trial & error.

Since the iPad is such a great tool for music production it is astoundig how difficult it can be to connect it via MIDI. There are many other clueless iPad users in other forums who have the very same problems.

Connecting it via midi means getting the same Camera Connection Kit and a usb/midi cable.

They have adapters for that but you can only use one at a time. Im fine with the Lightning connection but my issue is that they need a decent docking station that supports multiple connections.

Plus all adapters are like 30 bucks. And there's no guarantee they won't switch to a different connector in a year or two.

A little off topic here perhaps, but are any of you using your iPad to record onto and if so, what software are you running as we'll as what interface? I just bought the Focusrite Scarlette.

http://global.focusrite.com/usb-audio-i ... rlett-18ii' using the camera kit and the supplied cable with it.

Just a heads up after trying Setlist Maker for a while.
1. Some basic functions like attaching documents (sheet music) are paid upgrades from within the app. Not very expensive but still not super chic.
2. It won't allow page flipping between jpgs, in effect if you have a multi page sheet you'll have to convert it to pdf. Not a huge issue, but to do this on the iPad itself you need, again, paid software.
3. You can attach recordings to each song, but they have to come from the iTunes library on the iPad. That means no Dropbox, email, or rehearsal recordings (unless you use a computer to get them from the iPad and then transfer them back to the iTunes library).

I've emailed the developer but he seemedto only be defensive and says that it works fine for thousands of users and basically I should just do it the roundabout way. So it doesn't seem like it will change anytime soon.

I must defend the developer of Setlist Maker - I asked for a couple of changes to the midi implementation and they were added within a few updates!

I just attach PDFs and MP3s via iTunes on the Mac, doesn't take that long and doesn't even require a sync of the iPad.

I actually bought a Kronos because I wanted the SLM functionality without having to have an iPad / power supply / iMidi interface / midi cable on stage. It pretty much does the same job in setlist mode, but not quite as well as SLM.

He was kind enough to take the time to reply to me but he didn't seem very inclined to do anything about my complaints - his solution about multiple jpgs was "make a PDF", which means more paid software or using a computer. His "solution" for not being able to attach real audio files (only links and only to iTunes) was simply "use iTunes". Of course that's possible but if I make rehearsal recordings on my iPad or get tracks sent via dropbox I fully expected to be able to use them. Using a computer with iTunes seems very cumbersome in comparison.

And of course, the very basic function of attaching a PDF or other document/music sheet is a paid upgrade.

I still like and use the program, I just thought to give people a heads up for if they're considering buying it.

This set-list maker. Is it an app that works in conjunction with the Set List in my Kronos?

On another note, I was thinking that a thread that directly ties in with iPad/Kronos users would be great. I know there is an iPad thread but I was thinking that a direct thread would be awesome. One for all us poor feeble chaps who are struggling to get our technology to do what we tell it to do.

Setlist maker
http://www.arlomedia.com/apps/setlistma ... /home.html

It handles not just the set lists and documents for lyrics/chord charts, but can also play back tracks and send midi program changes.
So it does what the Kronos Set List mode does, with the addition of the documents.

I replaced it with the purchase of a Kronos for live sets but as I said, the drag and drop interface for moving around songs is easier to use than the K's Set List mode.

I'd love drag and drop implemented on the Kronos, as well as multi-part songs (one slot, multiple combis/programs). User-defined colours for slots would be a help too!

Set list maker isn't an editor for Kronos setlists or anything. It's simply an app with which you can make setlists, Kronos or no. You need to manually enter songs with their info (sheet music, lyrics, notes, tempo, etc) and then you can make setlists out of them. I find it useful with the exception of the limitations noted above.
