This is the first "official" info from a Korg source about the Intel D510MB motherboard in the KRONOS, that there's no customized BIOS or anything else...
If this is true, what was the recent firmware update all about?

It's still "if" until somebody actually installs an unmodified Intel motherboard successfully, I guess...

The firmware that was updated could be stored on one of the other (Korg) circuit boards...to me, it always seemed unlikely that Korg would modify the Intel BIOS, since BIOS functions can be replaced by customized BIOS extension code that can physically reside somewhere else (at least that's the way it used to be; am I showing my technical age here?)...

I'll follow this with interest! If it works, I'll look for a board on ebay for a spare.

Yes but in my case that I have a. Kronos X if you use the 510 mb you have to change some parts.

Kronos Motherboard Replacement Notes

Explanation

The original motherboard (BLKD510MO) used in the KRONOS series has been superseded by a newer model (BLKD525MW). This newer model is used in later production Kronos and KronosX series keyboards. Only this newer model motherboard will be provided as replacement parts.
The part number for the replacement motherboard is 200002189801.

Because of differences between the motherboards, replacing the original Kronos motherboard with the newer type will require changing some additional parts. Please use the following information as a guideline as to which additional parts to order.

Note that the keyboard size (61 or 73/88) and the amount of installed RAM must be taken into account when determining which additional parts need to be ordered.

Please refer to the service manual for detailed motherboard replacement instructions.

Required Changes

All Models (61 key, 73 key, and 88 key)

SO-DIMM RAM modules must ordered to replace the DIMM type modules used on the old style board. The Kronos normally comes with a single 2GB RAM DIMM installed, but may have been expanded with a second 1GB DIMM. In this case, two 2GB SO-DIMM modules should be installed on the new motherboard.
Please determine how many RAMs DIMMS are currently installed in the unit and order an equal number of the new SO-DIMM modules.
Order Part # 500002191100
KLM-3008 must be changed to an updated version.
(The updated board is still designated with the same KLM-3008 number)
Order Part # 200109263008 if it is in stock. Otherwise order part # 200129603005 for the 61 note version, or part # 200129613005 for the 73 & 88 note versions
Note: When ordered under part #'s 200129603005 or 200129613005 the KLM-3008 board is supplied as part of a PCB set that includes the front panel boards.
The power supply harness must be changed.
Order Part # 500475004186
61 Note Models Only:

The right side chassis must be changed.
Order Part # 500641042208
73 and 88 Note Models Only:

The two grounding shields must be changed.
Order Part # 500630042661 (Two required)

Sorry, Mr. K, I missed the X in your posting that started this thread, and I though we were talking about the D510MO motherboard in the original KRONOS...so you need an Intel D525MX motherboard, and there are a couple offered on eBay now for under $100, too...the info in your last post seems to tell how to modify the D525MW to be used in the original (non X) KRONOS, which is not what you want to do...

This whole subject can be pretty confusing, and I apologize for adding to the confusion...

Well My Kronos is back .... a new intel d525mw motherboard and that is. So a good idea to look to those MW on the web because Korg sales it on nearly $ 500 dollars US.

This goes right to the core of my topic which I was personally Insulted for & my topic was locked korg fixed the kronos without fixing it instead of fixing the motherboard problem the keybed problem the fan problem on the original and the kronos x they decided they would fix the problem with the all new kronos which does everything the original kronos does nothing more it's just that they fixed all the hardware problems with the all new kronos instead of fixing the original and x kronos problems & now they wanna sell u a motherboard for 500 dollars for a average motherboard that's really shady business It's crazy unbelievable korg

The only "motherboard problem" that needed to be fixed was that Intel stopped making the original KRONOS monterboard...Happy New Year, Harpernet !!!

I spoke with the Korg Service here in P.R. and he told me that indeed the MB needs a Custom Bios in order to start the Kronos , so you can buy the MB on a computer shop or Ebay and call Korg Support and they will send you a file with the Bios and some instructions ( have to take some jumpersof the MB and the battery of the Kronos) It is not a plug and play part but $ 500 is too much on Korg is just cost me $ 150.

Btw. Korg sales that MB around $500 dollars
Hi the service centre in Milton Keynes put a new mb in my 73 Kronos which was an X mb. I ask them if that was faulty out of warranty could I replace it with an off the shelf one and the answer was YES :D
