Very good..

I Love Korg :D
It's a little bit complicated holding STEP KEY + FUNCTION while turning SPEED to set the pitches for melodies

It works if you press FUNC+S2 to activate the motion sequence recording. Works fine for me at least.

Let me describe the full procedure:

PREPARATION:
Func + ClearAll
Step Mode (On)
Select Part (1-10)
Select Sample (1-99)
Select Steps (1-16, LED on)
Func + S2 (ModSeq-LED on)
Func + S3 (Clear ModSeq - just to make sure)

PROCEDURE:
StepRec ON (button blinks)

then for every step (1-16) that you want to change the frequency (=speed):
Press&Hold Step 1st (!!) and then twist Speed-knob
(-63 to +63 cents; 3cents = 1 halftone )
AND/OR
Press&Hold Step 1st (!!) and Press&Hold Func and then twist Speed-knob
(-24 to + 24 halfnotes)

StepRec OFF (button does not blink anymore)

Remarks: it takes a while, especially with two left Hands (as I have)...
make sure not to switch to a different part while you are within
the "procedure"

Hi,
sorry, but i don´t get it.
What do you exactly mean by "Press/Hold Step 1st" ?
There is no such button called "STEP" on my Volca Sample.
Thanks in advance, R.

Sorry for the confusion but English is not my mother-language :)

the Volca Sample has 16 STEP-buttons.

Normally you just press and release those step-buttons - for this special procedure you must press the Step-button for which you want to change the tone and NOT release it but keep it pressed ("hold"). While holding it you change the the tone by twisting the Speed-knob.

Hope that now it is more clear what I mean...

chris, thanks for your reply ! somehow it still doesn´t work.
when i am in flashing stepRec mode, pressing a stepkey triggers the assigned part sample (for the first/ second/ect. step) no recording of pot motion :( maybe the os upgrade did not work properly ? i hesitate to redo it, as all my samplesettings are gone again...

Motion record in step mode?

I cannot get this to work either unless its just live step recording motion sequence, which is quite random and pointless. Is this all it does or am i expecting to much. I thought by holding down the selected step whilst step record button flashing you could turn the speed dial to a select number. Like a note paremeter lock for that particular step if you know what i mean. Am i doing somthing wrong here? The function and hold step idea is clearly not working on that any way as that just triggers next sample of course! If any one can explain this or maybe i have faulty unit. I have done the latest os update! Anyone with a video would be nice :)

I updated my Volca sample because i'd really like to use this function but somehow i can't seem to get it to work either. I tried all the steps described above (thanks for that!) and i tried several other ways but somehow i can't record motion sequence in step record mode.

Also when i try:

AND/OR
Press&Hold Step 1st (!!) and Press&Hold Func and then twist Speed-knob
(-24 to + 24 halfnotes).... it just goes out of step record mode.

Per step note motion sequence

Struggling with this but i can get it to work in this manner please try it does work as described below.
But the sequencer must be stopped not live and running thats the point here.
1)make 4 kick steps for example
2) turn motion sequence on (funct motion seq on/off s2)
3) press enter step mode
4) press step rec (it will flash)
5) select and hold one of the lit kick steps
6) whilst holding turn the speed dial to a number
7) turn off step record
8) NOW you MUST return the speed dial back to central position where it sits it clicks in you know the feel im talking about. This is important you must do that.
9) now when you press play to start sequencer the different notes per step you have set will play back . If there is a better way please tell 😄

Spock (RIP) would say "fascinating".

It´s simple to do BUT rather difficult to explain - zwerg-1 and I describe the same with different words. It´s probably really necessary that somebody makes a YouTube-Video of this feature.

In my opinion it should be KORGs responsibilty to make a proper manual and if necessary how-to-videos!!!!

Motion record in step mode

Wow thanks Chris this is a perfect video! Super helpful for everyone. I agree with you that Korg should explain things better in their manuals, they are so short and lacking any clear guidance sometimes.

Chris-korg, you rock!!!

This works great and now I know what I did wrong. See, I wasnt pressing rec in step mode, but I was actually entering step rec mode (function + record), it's a subtle difference.... The way you showed however makes so much more sense.. :D

Chris, thanks, your video tutorial solved the problem !

when you all wrote to activate/press "step record" i thought you meant step record MODE, for which you have press both "rec" AND "funcion", which doesn´t work.

but now everything is clear, hooray!
