I would at best add a good Roland effort, but never replace my Kronos anytime soon.

But yes, Roland seems to insist on staying the "king of broken concepts", like with all their synths and workstations since V-Synth times. The Fantom G was their first serious mess up of a promising flagship concept, and it didn't get any better since then.

So I have reasons to doubt that the JD-Xa will do much better, until I hear and see that it really does.

Agreed. "Kronos Killer" was perhaps strong phrasing as I also have no intention to replace mine, but it sets the context. I mean honestly though, what workstations out there even COMPARE to the Kronos? Be so nice to at least see an alternative! It almost feels like the other MI companies in this market (Roland, Yamaha in particular) have just stopped trying. Kurzweil is starting to show potential, but they are still not the cutting edge they were in the 80's/early 90's. The K series has been dead for so long an entire generation of players has practically grown up with out them! I really don't know what the heck they're waiting for...
Actually the only one killing Kronos is Korg.. Why isnt there any major DAW integration just like the Motif has? Or Karma 3+ , and why arent the nanopad pads not integrated in the new K... And why isnt the piano roll of the Krome in the new Kronos... And i am not even talking about the integration of new sound engines... And a long list of small things..

Nothing comes close to a Kronos, yet still i think Korg is not trying hard enough and giving the competition a chance to catch up and overtake the K..

Guess it depends on your perspective. I own a Motif and have never used the DAW features once. Karma 3 would have been nice to have. I love the nanopads, but other people might want to use other controllers. Plus they're easily (and cheaply) replaceable if they crap out eventually. I know I pound the hell out of mine every weekend! We all agree a sequencer update is long overdue, even though I don't use it personally. The sad part is even if Korg did nothing, the competition has a lot of catching up to do! So far we've seen nothing.
Korg: KRONOS 73, M50-61, 01W/r
Yamaha: Motif XS7, FS1R
Kawai K5000S, Roland JD-990 w/Vintage Synth

Well, i am expecting something big from Yamaha. For sure... I doubt however that they will create anything with multiple engines and onnovative tools loke Karma..

Offcourse i was overexagerating about Korg killing Kronos.. Yet still we both agree that a little more progression would have been welcome... But then maybe it will be korg surprising us all at musikmesse with a major update of the Kronos sequencer and true DAW integration.... Now would be as good as anytime with the New Ks finally arivi g in europe..

After the management buy-out Roland's definitely on a roll, with the AIRA range expanding itself last NAMM with the interesting concept of the MX-1, and now what appears to be a modular AIRA system-1 version. Add to this the JD-Xi/XA, and you got a company which succeeds in revitalizing itself.

I'm also curious to see what Casio comes up with after the PX5s; it looks as if the company is moving towards competing in the mid-range market, maybe with a workstation of their own?
