PAE is really just a memory based page file. There would probably not be much value in using it since the application can still only address up to 4gb at any time. You could use the extra memory as a page file and stream samples from it but you can already do that from the SSD.

I don't know which kernel they're using, but if they're using memory management for user-space, the allocation and use of the pages is usually pretty-much dealt with automatically by the hardware under-the-covers.

Having said that, I'm more of a MIPS man. I know a fair bit about how the memory management system works on there. It's not file based on MIPS. It's page based, each page being 4k. Using Linux, you can almost forget about how the memory management system is working when you're working in user space.

Does the new Kronos come with Max ram (3GB) as standard, or do you have to pay for an upgrade?

The new Kronos 2 seems to come with 4gb of ram, but the Kronos can only use 3gb of it. Either way, it comes with the full 3 GB

It's a slight upgrade which you mostly won't notice in practice. More because it's just the best currently available equivalent of the old, there was no intention of "upgrading" the board, CPU/RAM-wise.

Fortunately, the fan on my K1 is quiet, so far. The keys are mechanically smooth and quiet as well, except for the common (yet reasonable) thud as it travels the full length through (a little irritating). I actually like the cosmetics of both. One thing I prefer (even though the holes are quite small), is NOT having the vent holes in the back, as my place gets quite dusty! All in all, the tweaks with the K2 make it look both vintage and premium! One to be reckoned with! The K1, to me, looks sleek and stealthy! Understated power!

Keeping the present status - instead of making a hardware jump with the Kronos 2015 - is essentially good news for both old and new users IMO.

It means that the Kronos continues to have a common userbase with more or less the same hardware specs, which is much more inviting for both Korg development and external development of sound packages, in a limited market in risky times, and that all users continue sharing their experience across this common platform.
