I guess I just don't understand the differences between all the DAWs out there. I'm a Cubase guy. It works for me. I'm using the latest 7.5 version. I don't use a lot of plug ins. I like the sound that I'm getting and quite simply can't justify the cost of buying and trying several others.
Of course I do understand that what works for me might not work for somebody else.

If music is the food of love, play on and play loud!

I really don't think the differences are that huge between Cubase, ProTools, Logic, Sonar, Reaper, StudioOne etc.
They mostly accomplish the same things in slightly different ways. Reason (if you can call it a DAW) and Ableton are a little bit more niche and offer workflows more suited for specific things but ultimately also do bread and butter DAW chores.

Cubase seems the most wellrounded, unless you are on a mac, then for €200 only you just cant say no to Logic X, which comes close to Cubase in many ways and has a whole load of topclass Virtuall instrument to boost..
Or if you are into trance and other dance music, then live as a peformance tool is just awesome, where Cubase is better as a composing and recording tool..

Digital Performer is great for composition and arrangement - but it is absolutely awful on Windows. It hasn't been developed to make use of Windows' native UI libraries, and so on a resolution of 1080p or greater, it basically unreadable as many of the fonts are (without exaggeration) no more than 4-8 pixels high).

Anyone try Studio One 3 Artist or Pro version? My wife just got a new laptop and wants a DAW. She wants to try something different then Reaper. She is interested in Studio One 3. Anyone have any experience with it?

I've been using Studio One since version 1.5, and whilst I like the overall feel and workflow, I've moved to Cubase due to two critical MIDI implementation deficiencies: firstly, it doesn't support SysEx in any way, making it difficult to work with hardware such as the Kronos which uses SysEx extensively. Secondly, the mixer doesn't allow mixing of MIDI tracks.
For working with audio exclusively though, I remain a fan of Studio One.
