Possible Solution

This just happened to me. Stuck in the bootup process and wouldn't power off. What I did to fix it was pull the power chord from the back of the unit, and then held the power button down for about 20 seconds. Of course, nothing seemed to happen, as the power supply was unplugged, but I think what it did was to discharge any capacitors that would be holding a charge that was messing up the processor.

I did tech support for HP for a while, and that was one of our favorite bits of kung fu.
