Explore your KRONOS for its true potential !
Absolutely!jeremykeys wrote:I bought my Kronos in September 2011 and the simple fact that it is kept current by free Korg updates is just mind blowing. Complaints are simply just not valid.
All manufacturers have to make money! Without it none of us would benefit from their inventions. I think the guy complaining here seems to have been caught up in the cynical side of consumerism which touches us all at times! me included!
Fact is the KRONOS has been supported admirably for a 4 year old product a little like the Kurzweil K2000 was in its long history! I think any company that happens upon a product that hits the mark would be foolish to offer unattainable upgrades and Korg certainly have not done this with the KRONOS. Indeed they have realised how popular this instrument has become, listened to their clients and have profited square and fair without any hoodwinking at all ! R & D is an expensive business and keeping a product going/updated is also an expensive business - a long term investment of time and money. However we are the ones who benefit too with the marvellous products they occasionally produce.
I think Stephen Kay pointed out the facts about the KRONOS original individual patch/combie/sample count that outweighs all other brands by far! Also the sheer programability of the 9 synth engines is vast. Although it does cater for those less interested in programming, at its heart the KRONOS is a real musicians instrument designed to cover all bases and with great aplomb! The KRONOS is not a "jack of all trades" but a "master of many"! It is stronger by far in all departments than its competitors: in Live play and external control, in sound creation and in recording. Those who do not explore the nuances of its architecture are like the violinist who fails to grasp the subtleties of a Stradivarius violin for the absolute depth of dynamic tone it can really achieve with consistent practice.
I have had mine since november 2012 and it took me initially 2 months of solid work to get to know the instrument fluidly. However I continue to find new ways of doing things on the KRONOS which is not only a godsend practically but also a real joy to accomplish. The guys who invented this instrument should be praised for their intuitive insight into modern musical demands. No keyboard is perfect and the KRONOS is no acception. There are things I myself really wish it did but what it may be missing is far outweighed by what it does offer and for that I am very grateful to those guys.
Hey! and while I'm at it! I'd like to say a big "thank you!" to STEPHEN KAY as well for his marvellous invention in KARMA that is a true cornerstone to the KRONOS flexibility as a creative musical instrument!

KORG kudos
...One could argue that a company that does not fundamentally change the basic physical concept of a product could actually be justified in charging for updates/upgrades as they are not profiting from a completely newly designed model with physically added functions.
This is evident with Korg: baring in mind the fact that the new KRONOS keyboard is basically the same as the old ones bar only a few cosmetic changes, and they have just given us a FREE substantial OS update, speaks volumes for their kudos!

You are correct. On a piano patch, select EXi 1 Tab and you'll see the String Resonance sub-tab. The on/off switch and Depth parameter are on the String Resonance sub-Tab.Dniss wrote:So sympathetic Resonance has to be added manually? I'm not finding any patch with it. Am I understanding this right?
The SR default setting is off.
Best Regards,
Larry

Yes. As a rule, Korg updates don't automatically edit your existing sounds.Dniss wrote:So sympathetic Resonance has to be added manually? I'm not finding any patch with it. Am I understanding this right?
New Korg libraries (such as the Berlin Grand) will use the String Resonance as appropriate.
