And he has now confirmed that the editor will be free.

To be honest, I don't believe the motif line has any further development left.....very much like the Fantom series from Roland...

They keep flogging, same old same old....

And even the Karma is not that useful, as you MUST have a PC (or laptop) to be able to use it out of the studio!!!!

It won't run "stand-alone" on a Motif XS/XF synth at a gig!!!
Stephen would like to have Karma inside a Roland or Yamaha, but it is delayed, I don't know if this is because of commercial reasons, but maybe the OS of the Roland/Yamaha is not suitable (enough) for easy development changes.
Stephen has posted a notice over at his forums about this. He expected the motif Karma to be ready for this years NAMM, but he did not have all of the combi's completed. He said the realease should be in about a month I believe so hang on MOTIF users it is almost ready... You can learn more over at Karma Lab Forums...

I'm not expecting much further Motif development. Yamaha has huge resources, a brilliant history of innovation, vibrant R&D on many fronts, and some interesting recent patents, so new directions can't be completely ruled out (in my opinion). I doubt that they're "down for the count" at this point.

No not saying they are down for the count at all...I am jsut saying the motif line has run it's course...they have even been trying to milk the last remaining drops from it with the MOX release...old technology a bit of clever marketing and a few more thousand dollars on technology that has been paid for about a million times over...

But Roland are doing the same...you only have to listen to the BK7m offerings to realise they are essentially the same sound patches that were available on the SC88 series...or well over ten years old!!!!

The Fantom apart form "gee whiz" trendy hardware and bling, is running essentially the same sound engine as the original Fantom FA76!!!

My guess is these companies are going to continue milking these products for at least another 12-18 months, maybe even two years.....

Don't get me wrong, they are EXCELLENT keyboards...just nothing new in about 5 years....

Thank you ... didn't know about this (to be honest, I'm not regularly checking Karma labs).

Here is a short video of Stephen showing KARMA on a MOTIF at NAMM.

Not a great video quality wise but it does give you a good idea of how KARMA will work on the MOTIF's

This has to be one of the best videos I've found (thus far) demoing the minibrute....

Personally, I thought that Roland would replace the Fantom G sometime this year, because it was released in 2008, making it 4 years old now. The Fantom X lasted for 4 years, so I thought that 2012 would be the year of the next Fantom.

The Motif series does seem to be running out on itself (if you get what I mean), but maybe Karma for Motif will give it a new lease of life.

Yeah Stuck you may be right...and in fact I WAS committed to buying a Karma pack for my Motif XS, UNTIL I found out that you HAD to have a computer on stage to use it!!!!

No ifs, buts or maybes...you wanted live play with Karma on a Motif - lug your DAW with you!!!

What a pain that is!!

So once I found that out I ditched the mo xs (the Karma thing was the ONLY reason I was hanging on to it) and I am now working on another project.

This is what makes this new Casio synth so cool. Casio have gone outside most of the "conventional" thinking over the past few years and gone back to what made synths so unique as an instrument back in the day!!!

It is not like they can't do it successfully....just look at their original synth lines...Sheesh I REMEMBER the releases in Australia, and drooling at the music shop over them!!!!

I hope this acts a real wake-up call to the so-called "big three"...although I very much doubt it.
