Are we talking past each other or is this just semantics?
New electribe: You hit record, and then trigger patterns that's you've previously made, and then save that result.
Old Electribe: You enter Song Mode to edit a string of program changes.
So far the only difference between Song Mode and Event Recording is that you can work in Song Mode non-destructively, non-linear, and the new one is strictly real-time.
Song Mode lets you edit the pattern order of the song after you've saved it, whereas the Event Recorder requires a new performance of your song?
So, on the new electribe: Re-perform your song with the Event Recorder running when you have a change, OR wait until your preview performance is locked down. Then record it.
If you want to change it later, looks like you'll have to re-perform your song. Is performing on the electribe a drag? Is it like having to wash the same dishes by hand twice in a row?
I just feel there is a lot of outrage in comment sections about "no song mode" when the truth is there is something similar yet simpler that just requires a slightly different style of workflow and a different thought process. Nothing about the electric series is a chore or a drag, this is play.
