I _know_ that there is MIDI with new electribes. I just thought that for you, in general, no MIDI isn't a big deal. Got you wrong. Sorry. Slightly offtopic.

I think some people are all messed up if they believe there is no midi...there is Midi, there is midi IN and Midi OUT and the special midi adapters to plug into the electribes stereo plug ins are included inside the box right next to the power supply!!!!

Ted3000 wrote:So, create 16 sequential patterns. Assign them to the pads. Hit the event recorder, and step through the patterns - you can even do mutes and unmutes to add further variety to the patterns. Hit stop, hit save, name your event as your song title. Now you've chained 'em.

The only difference is that instead of chaining patterns blind, you've performed the chaining. You've spent an extra 4 minutes, or however long your Song was.

You mean to tell me on the emx/esx you chained patterns together without ever "performing" them in order to see how they flow together?
I will explain my workflow to you, maybe then you will understand me better:

First, I do an intro. Then I programm another pattern (verse, chorus..). Then, I chain them to see whether they sound nicely together, or not. And then, I want those two patterns I made in one day to be chained in song mode. Oh, that does not work. I cannot save their order and then continue work the next day. That sucks.

I am not that angry about it, but I do not understand why Korg is removing this feature. I am not saying that the Event Recorder is BS, but if you want to program a song from start to beginning, replaying patterns, editing them, the Event Recorder simply does not do this job.

On the EMX, I even chained patterns with only a basic melody to get an idea how the arrangement should be like. Then, I filled the empty spaces of the patterns. This work flow was great! And now Korg cut it :(

It's human nature for people to compare a new product through the lens of the old product. Because it can't do something they feel is critical (song mode) they throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Whatever happened to teh interwebz mantra "limitations breed creativity"? 8)

All of this is conjecture until we see the full manual set and someone gets a unit into their sweaty hands and tries Event Recording to see what it really can or cannot do.

OK, on with the hating

Are we talking past each other or is this just semantics?

New electribe: You hit record, and then trigger patterns that's you've previously made, and then save that result.

Old Electribe: You enter Song Mode to edit a string of program changes.

So far the only difference between Song Mode and Event Recording is that you can work in Song Mode non-destructively, non-linear, and the new one is strictly real-time.

Song Mode lets you edit the pattern order of the song after you've saved it, whereas the Event Recorder requires a new performance of your song?

So, on the new electribe: Re-perform your song with the Event Recorder running when you have a change, OR wait until your preview performance is locked down. Then record it.

If you want to change it later, looks like you'll have to re-perform your song. Is performing on the electribe a drag? Is it like having to wash the same dishes by hand twice in a row?

I just feel there is a lot of outrage in comment sections about "no song mode" when the truth is there is something similar yet simpler that just requires a slightly different style of workflow and a different thought process. Nothing about the electric series is a chore or a drag, this is play.

I don't know why I'm defending the Event Recorder. I have no stake in this. I'll probably never record an event, and I never used Song Mode on my EMX, not once.

I'll let the electribe community grieve the loss of song mode in peace.

If that's the case then i'm happy. I didn't realise that pattern switching would count as an event. I can adapt. 8) I was going to get one anyway even without song capability but if they work like that it's a bonus now. Cheers.

Yes, this is what upsets me mostly. Also, you won't be able to record automation over several patterns and it is unclear whether midi sync/midi output still works with the Event Recorder.

Amp/EG section has controls for volume and panning of the each sound, and standard envelope controls. EG stands for envelope generator. Here's a good explanation.

Ahh, I got confused. I thought it was an envelope control by amplifier.

It is not. Event Recorder records your perfomance, just like an audio recorder bascially. Song Mode let you chain patterns in a certain order and replay them.
