I agree that what you do for your primary living would NORMALLY not be my business. However, given the many posts you have made about Korg products that I consider mean-spirited and disrespectful, and given how you seem to attempt to support these statements with pro-musician references such as "my students" and "my clients", I thought it would be nice for the entire forum to better understand your professional music credentials.

Thank you for your offer but it does not provide me with any of the additional music credentials information I have requested. I already know those things about you.
ricky recordo wrote: Some of the work I collaborate on with clients has been well-received, but it's not my place to post such material.

I can do the same if you like and provide you a list of musicians with whom I currently work. Again, once I have received their permission, I will PM you links to their websites and you may happily pry away.
"Collaborating with clients" is unclear to me. I don't necessarily need to see other musician's work, but rather I am trying to understand what you do musicially.

Perhaps it is easier for you to respond to specific questions:
1. You mention "students", which implies you teach music. What type of students do you teach (all ages, high school, etc.) and what do you teach (e.g. guitar, harmonica, piano lessons)?
2. Do you derive your primary income from some profession outside of music (you don't have to say what, but simply a "Yes" or "No")?
3. You metioin "clients" and "collaboration" which implies you have a studio and bill clients for services. What specific services to you provide (e.g. you play guitar, you act as a producer, you act as a songwriter, or you act as a recording engineer)?
ricky recordo wrote: This will necessitate your actually responding to my PMs though
There is no question I have discouraged you from sending me PMs, but to my knowledge I have never received any PMs from you. If you did send me a PM, sufficient time has expired that I don't remember it.

No doubt, much time has passed since I sent the first of several PMs to you, Martin. It was way back in the stone age of course, where we two great fearsome and mighty Titans first roared our mighty roars and gnashed our mighty teeth.

No PMs will be coming your way then, as requested

I hope that Daz will provide a conduit for us though. As much as you drive me nuts at times, I believe that you have a good heart, strong moral values, and passionate convictions which you are prepared stand up for come hell or high water. Believe it or not, those are some things that I do admire about you.

I remember that back in the stone age we were able to make peace (for a while anyway)... so who knows, if we just each take a few steps back and look at what all this jousting back and forth has accomplished - which is not very damned much - maybe we can at least find a way to co-exist.

I'm willing to tweak the way I post my opinions to accomodate your vision of what is "acceptable" (without absolutely giving up the right to have a say - or just goof off now and again - in my own way, when I choose).

(ricky makes a peace sign as a single tear rolls down his cheek - fo' real)

- must've been something in my eye - all better now

Thank you.

P.S. -- I still would be interested to hear more about what you do with "students" and "clients".

And thank you, Martin.

Here are some of my successful students and clients all rollled up in one beautiful place -

http://www.myspace.com/tokyopoliceclub

them on tv: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=767XpOvT5FU

Did you hear that?

That's what I try to do - help out the kids. There's so much talent that needs to be seen and heard...

I work a lot with other "clients" as well - autistic kids and adults mainly - and again there is so much incredible talent that craves nurturing. I try to do what i can there as well. The pay is pretty low, but the joy makes up for it so many times over.

PM me if you like :D or email TPC for that matter, they probably won't mind at all (just tell 'em "the man upstairs" sent ya, though... they'll grok the password)

Oh yeah, BTW there's a good Rolling Stone review this week for Tokyo Police Club on the Download page - 4 stars!

I especially like folks who demand my 'professional music credentials'

Its like , ' wow , where do I start ? "

1) I played piano for my aunt and uncle's 50th wedding anniversary. They padded me on the head and said ' very nice, here's a quarter'

2) I lurk around hotel bars seeking pianos that aren't locked down or chained closed. When I find a piano I can play. I will sit down and play a few tunes from " Phantom of the Opera ". To further prove my professionalalism , I will wear a half mask on my face and my way cool Batman robe while performing

Well, as luck would have it, Martin, I just took a call from Dave of Tokyo Police Club. Dave was one of my most gifted students, and now he's a long-term client and friend. He's coming into Toronto tomorrow to hang out with me. Then he flies back out to the west coast on Friday for gigs in Calgary, Vancouver and Seattle; after that I'll give him the keys to the place and he'll be moving in from Sept 4-8 to work out some new material. We may have some decent video equipment set up in here as well for a behind-the-scenes peek.

While Dave and the lads are around, I'll have them join in the forum if you like, and you can ask them straight up "what I do". :)

I love watching these guys work. They're like bees, hovering over synths, guitars, drums, the recording/mixing desk, dashing to and fro, cross-pollinating phrases and riffs, drum grooves, working out lyrics, laying real hard into the Wurli (a fave pastime here)... great pleasure to see them work hard - and they do work hard - and a good reason for an old coot like me to keep on keepin' on!

Try that on your OASYS, or in Logic... ain't gonna happen.

Hardware - and lots of it - is where it's at.

Anything less would be a most egregious buzzkill.

I have to admit Martin I have never seen anyone who's post come under such scrutiny over all as much as yours. They absolutely kill you over on HC and I never really understood why accept I think some people are intentionally trying to get a rise out of you. How do you find the time to respond to all these posts? Please understand I mean no disrespect but I think sometimes you have to have the patience of a saint to defend your position against all those posts. I was thinking if you got paid per post, you'd be a millionare by now.

So Martin this beers for you! :3dbeer:
And there was this one time at band camp......

I know on this site it doesn't seem like it as much. Venture over to say Harmony Central and watch just about any post that Martin has. For an extra special treat, find an Oasys one!

well, its not surprising

One should not make a career over obsessive posting on HC.

After a point, this should occur to the mind " nobody is paying me to obsessively post this on HC, so WTF bother ? "

Oh, sorry, Greg C. I thought that said "after a pint". :)

As for rr's, "I love watching these guys work. LOL!

I took a look at the YouTube clip and have to say that's the sort of thing I label as well-rehearsed rubbish.

Topic RE: Update on my OASYS

Post by AnthonyB »

This post is RE: to Update on my OASYS
(the thread that was locked

Talking about ""PM's"" (private messages) this is were you two should be debating "THIS " anyway, as this is the OASYS forum remember?. Am I the only one who's getting a little tired of this non-stop bickering between the two of you, maybe this topic will be moved into the ""Ricky Versus Martin"" Forum Venting opinions freely, even if non-KORG pro Even if ALL members are invited (count one out though!)

The OASYS is a professional keyboard, created by professionals/programmers, and contributors, and this thread, is about (goes back to check [seriously]), ... yes its about silverdragonsound and his poorly OASYS, and now its about.....

EDIT, I was just posting this but the thread was locked, maybe it does belong here - or better still, not here at all, but Disharmony Central perhaps???
