I actually see this Pretty sadly Since they are now forcing people to use there product with there new C/R System
So What If I Don't Agree with this way of protection ???
What Should I Do Then ???
The newest versions of KLC support either C/R or USB Key (different downloads). There is nothing stopping you from keeping your existing licenses on your Syncrosoft key and using a current version of the Syncrosoft LCC software or eLC software.

The change only really applies to any updates Korg might make to the software after April 30, 2010.

If Korg releases a new product in 2010 and you don't "agree" with this type of protection, just don't buy it or download it.

I think you are severely limiting yourself if you ONLY use products that have dongles. This rules out all Native Instruments software and all Spectrasonics software just to name a few.
Why do you think I don't have that stuff ... ???
NI Has some Stuff That I Might Like
For the spectrasonics Plugins Well It's not the kind of stuff that I would buy Since I Don't like them

You MUST be kidding. Steinberg has some of the worst support on the planet. Just visit the Steinberg forums.
ROTFLMAO

Okay so They Might not be able to fix every problem you come across
But at least if you contact them you get a fast response
(And They also Replace Damage/Lost disks within a few workdays)
Unlike korg who doesn't Answer to any support request
I have been waiting for 6 Months now for them to give response
... and I am still waiting for there response

But you might be right ....
If A company doesn't have support It can not be worst than that from an other

Who did you send it to?

Please remember that Korg is Japanese and that in all other countries there is just a distributor that covers the country.

So to say Korg has no support is incorrect, the distributor may not have the manpower to provide you with support in your country.

If you contact the UK then you will be given a reference number. If you contacted me, let me have your refernce so I can look up the enquiry.

Also check your return email address was typed correctly, typos are common so you may have been given a response but if your email is incorrect, it will never get to you.

Why did you not make a follow up to see if your enquiry did reach the Korg distributor. ? Moaning that you haven't had a reply in this forum isn't going to get you a reply from anyone who can help you.

Hi Mike,

I aggree with everthing you've said re Steinberg support and all that. But you've said two things:
uktechsupport wrote: As some of you have said Syncrosoft's eLicenser copy protection section has been acquired by Steinberg and as some of you may not be aware, their system will be changing from next year.
and
uktechsupport wrote: I dread hearing the stories of how much of a nightmare things are going to be from next year.
that give the impression that Steinberg will be changing something to do with the eLicencer (USB Key) next year and that whatever that may be is not very nice. At least that's the impression you've given me.

So, do you know if something going to change re the eLicencer?

Thanks,
Mark
Sorry for pushing but any possibility of answering the above.

I, for one, am really happy about this change. I was keeping myself from using the KLCs live on my laptop because of the dongle. Now i can use it alongside MainStage synths, NI and Arturia. What a great time to be living in!!

And for the people whinning about the dongle's purchase, c'mon...At the store i go, they sell it for 39.99$ Big deal!?! Just keep it, you might come across some software some day that requires it..

Now, about the bug fixes, i don't know if i'm alone but the M1 and WS still aren't recognized as multi-out instruments in Logic 9.

Hi friends,

this is my first post here, but I am enjoying all the Korg software products since some years now. Gotta say I really love them, despite having the "real" Wavestation EX and T3 EX still right beside me in the studio :-)

Regarding the switch in licensing, I am not happy. I appreciate the feedback we receive from Korg support here and can understand that the problem is the buyout of eLicenser by Steinberg/Yamaha.

Personally, I think C/R systems are the worst possible, because they fail when your harddisk goes corrupt and (even worse) when you switch to a new computer. I have had this a few weeks ago, switching from an older Mac Pro to a new Mac Pro Quad. Needless to say that the OS and everything worked fine right after plugging in my old harddisk. ALL (!!) USB protected plugins did work right out of the box (Waves, Steinberg and Korg) - but those who did not work were C/R based.

It took me half a day to search all the required login stuff, to send challenges, to enter response codes ... and so on. Unfortunately, this wasn´t a pleasant experience.

Anyway, we need to live with the change in the future, but maybe Korg could investigate into having e.g. iLok authorisation as an option? That would really be appreciated.

Thanks & kind regards
Tom

Tom,

You can still download the most current USB Key version and use it forever (if you also keep a version of the eLC/LCC app around).

In my mind, there is no guarantee that Korg will be updating KLC. So far, they have stated future updates after April 30, 2010 will be C/R.

I think this depends on how Korg reacts to their software being C/R, and therefore crackable.

I understood that Korg, being a hardware company, were really upset when the original KLC-1 (with C/R) was cracked and posted on P2P networks. I assumed that was the reason they went with a dongle.

They may have investigated iLok, or may simply want to try having total control again over their software for a while (i.e. not being dependent on Steinberg or PACE).

This whole thing may be all about cost. If Korg doesn't really plan to update any of the KLC products, this might be a move to stop having to pay Steinberg licensing fees.

Thank you Martin for your reply. You are indeed right, I will keep my dongle protected versions as long as possible, however I fear that changes in OS platforms might make it necessary to install future C/R only updates.

Yep - and I am truly sad that customers have to deal with C/R or dongles, just because some people don´t have a real life and hack software. It is more than understandable that companies are upset and must act (they lose money which in reverse leads to people losing their jobs). Hopefully, Korg will figure out a good solution in the future and keep on making more software plugins.

best regards
Tom

No. I have suggested they contact the distributor again but if he was in the UK then I can look up his request or he can re submit.

Hi Mark

Sorry for overlooking your post.

I don't have specific details of what Steinberg will be doing as they are keeping it close. I just know that they are going to implement changes that will make Korg's position in terms of using the elicensing system more of an inconvenience for us than it has been.

On your other point.

From experience of speaking to users in the past there hasn't been a glowing report on their support in terms of difficulty in contacting them or failure to resolve issues. I am constantly asked (almost daily) to help resolve an issue that clearly is a Cubase issue and because the user can’t get an answer from them, they come to me. I'm not paid to do Cubase support, I just understand as well as anyone how it works. I find it strange that I know the answer to the problem the user is having yet the person paid to do Cubase support does not. I have separate experiences of elicensing and to be fair to Gordon at Syncrosoft, he was great. Hopefully they will continue with the same structure when Steinberg takes over elicensing as if they don’t then I feel sorry for those needing support from 2010 onwards.

From the junior high school
Assuming that's true (I'm not saying you're fibbing)... I'm not surprised and am pretty p1ssed off about it.

Someone mentioned iLok earlier in the thread, I would support that idea.

Stealing is wrong, there are many victims (including ligit end users). Although I don't like any form of copy protection, I think ligit users should support a companies right to implement it even if it makes our lives a little more complicated. I want companies to continue to develop new stuff for us to play with, in order to do that they need money.

Crack users suck.

Please give iLok some thought.

Mike
I did Contact Korg USA, Korg UK & Voerman
No response from any of them
I Have not had a reference number (Also Note that Usually I send an email From my Email address so That I know for sure that you are able to reply)
I later went to my Local Dealer (The Guy who used to work for Korg's support)
He got a reply telling me that they don't have that problem

Before I Contacted Korg I Contacted Steinberg
and they told me that its probably some little driver bug
Cubase seems to wait for a response from external gear before shutting down
witch also explains why no crass occurred when the Kontrol49 was turned off or not connected by USB (If it was connected by midi Cubase did not crash at all)

I Hear that More People seem to have this Problem
The only thing I notice is that all those people have a Core 2 Quad CPU (Like the Q6600 that I have) but it's not only the Kontrol49
I have even heard from some People who had this problem with A Radias
