It's not 100% as I can tell you one thing for sure - there's no way that streaming from a hard drive would ever work on the OASYS the same way Kronos does it. And it doesn't have much to do with the rationale of what 2.5" can or cannot do. There are many other question marks about that feature on an IDE 2.5" five-year old drive.

But apart from that, it most probably is completely or almost completely compatible.

Would the kronos 800x600 GUI automatically adapt to the 640x480 oasys screen?

One last word about treatment of customers:

I bought my trusty Yamaha P 80 piano in 2000. After more and more keys got stuck I asked Yamaha about if this keybed had failures and ..... they changed the whole keybed for free in 2010 ... 8 years after warrenty went out !!!!!!!!!

why not?! Diskstreaming isn't big magic... . back in the Pentium-3 days there were Windows-VST Instruments like "The Grand" wich streamed perfectly from a slow drive.... even with 512MB of total RAM.

So HDD are still used for diskstreaming today... and even with bigger sample library instruments.... I'm sure the internal 2,5 IDE drive can handle a 4GB Piano perfectly...

Hmm, just curious, what started all of this?
Is it because of the Kro/asys thing, or something else?

Not directly.

But the story you are referring to is completing the picture.

LOL

Regarding Diskstreaming: I believe a conventional HD should be able to do this. And if not, well lets plug an external sdd into one of the 4 usbs. I doubt though there are HDs transferring 40 GB in a second. At least the one in my O seems MUCH slower. (or are you talking gigabits and not gigabytes? :? )

The most annoying thing is Korg's non-communication. Korg sticks to this policy even when they would have good news for us (I remember when they released hundreds of new sounds right after discontinuing the O; they wouldn't have given the tiniest hint that something nice is coming towards O useres - I mean, that's somebody really sticking to his policy  )

sad, but an understandable decision while the O is still a beautiful instrument but of course related to Korg. Hopefully you will keep on posting here in KF as it is not affiliated with Korg. I´m a little afraid after Daz as founder leaving the forum and reading your lines that this outstanding/exclusive community is falling apart ...... :(
