I like a studio that has both vintage Pultecs and blurry-headed musicians.

Playing with NY's finest! Great orchestrations of some of his best tunes.

Thanks for the link Kid Nepro!! What a great show. It would have been real cool if PG would have made arrangements of old Genesis songs and would have played Back in NY city that night

Those studio pics bring back some great memories! I worked on SSL, Neve, and Sony Oxford consoles (more than a decade ago)... those were fun times... but being in that awesome nature setting with swans, and not to mention Peter Gabriel... WOW! I guess we're all a bit jealous & envious. Have fun man!!!

Scooby, it was great you shared that!
The pics carry a lot of atmosphere, and I can imagine what a great time you had.
Despite that being a wonderful world, on an island out of our normal everyday horizon, my second thought was: in my small home studio I meanwhile get a quality and an amount of resources which the Beatles, doing Sgt. Pepper, would have dreamt of, and even ten years ago you would have had to spend an awful lot of money for recording on that present homestudio level, and playing on the Kronos synth level as well.
Isn't that the even bigger daily wonder perhaps?

+1
I still have an old Teac 3340s (reel to reel) somewhere in the garage... many bands used that to record their commercial music with back in the day. I still remember editing by actually splicing the physical tape! Oh man, I guess I'm dating myself here

but you're right, home studios today are magnitudes of order above that technology.

I too have kit like this and have fond memories of doing 2" 24-track multitrack splicing of tape.... Much more challenging!!
But the nice thing about places like Real World et al is that they still offer aspirations of what is still possible and available, even in these times of austerity.
What technology has done is bridge the gap between the two equally important worlds: the home studio and the pro studio.
Personally, I'm very lucky to have the option of both, and count my blessings every day!!
However, I would never write in this type studio. Pricewise its daft.
That said, the mix is vital in having a totally transparent room - something that msot of don't have.
Given the opportunity as a pure indulgence, I would have an ssl in a blink. But until the lottery numbers come up, I'll have to settle for the waves plugs and Logic.
