Scott & geoelectro: thanks for recommendations, but will either of these these solve the problem of enabling me to have volume control when using the PX-5S as a stand alone keyboard?

My remark is based on using it as a controller with the K61, which is how I work with my Yamaha P80. Obviously, standalone has different requirements. I believe the MIDI Solutions will help there.

I think what I desire in a controller is as much controll as I can get.
Full-weighted 88 keybed; aftertouch; pitch/two mod wheels; XY strip; key switches; keypads; a three pedal damper; expresion; volume; input for bass pedal board w/ the usual sliders/buttons for DAW.
No one makes that.

Just the Korgs; Kronos X88; M3exp w/EXBRadias; Radias rack; KLC; N5.

Just wondering if anyone has any opinions of the Akai controller in comparison? Especially as I've heard it tends to have a 'stiffer' action and the pads need a slight modification to be more responsive.Stipes Vigilo wrote:I really like my StudioLogic VMK188plus (Fatar). But I'm finding the joystick I love so much on it is a problem with certain software I run. I've been looking at the Akai MPK88 for awhile since it has the double wheel control and the multipad that my VMK doesn't have.

How much is it anyway?
Just reading through the FAQ and noticed it DOES NOT transmit aftertouch out.
So it's disqualified.

This is the happiest couple I betrothed recently

Among many others I've considered the Roland FP-80 won the Fiancée race.
The point of not to buy the RD-700NX instead was that flat FP-80 desk surface, so I can put the Kronos directly onto FP-80 with some additional back support. Is is very handy to play and operate them being close to each other. They fit perfectly both their sounds and keys/bodies.
The mysterious light in between is a LED strip bought on DX - this came as a significant part - you barely can distinguish the FP-80 buttons' titles without a light. So I just glued the strip on the Kronos bottom - it is soft and works also as an additional cushion block.

I've used all of my 88-key boards as controllers - the way I see it, any decent 88-key board (Kronos included) can be used as a controller.
The only real (in the pure sense of the word) controller that I have, and love to use, is a Roland AX-1b, which is sort of a collectors item at this point... its a 45-key wearable keyboard (aka "keytar", "shoulder synth", etc).
My latest board, a Casio Privia PX-5S is now my latest controller when I need to use soft synths. It has great keybed action, and 4 knobs and 6 sliders which are all programmable, as well as pitch and mod wheels, all in a 24-lb housing. Can also hold its own as a standalone board.

I've been getting regular email from Yamaha touting the CP4.
(I do have a certain bias toward Yamaha pianos).Anyone checked this out?
Also, I've been using my Kronos as a controller lately, since my VMK is at another house (Controlling the N1 for practice). And the one thing I find annoying is that once I've turned down the volume on the Kronos, it will not turn back up without having to reset it.
So, a separate controller is in order. And I would prefer it to not have it's own sound engine.
I would actually like a 76 (or 73) key version, But again, no one makes that.
