Thank you aLlfor a very amusing read, it's amazing, isn't, just how upset people get when someone suggests that their type of music is sub par. Myself, and I know this will upset some, am so freaking tired of classic rock that if I never hear any ever again it will be too soon. FYI, I am 58 years old.im just sick of it. New music? Sure, tons is great. Tons suck too. Check out the Winery dogs, Porcupine tree, Transatlantic, Spock's Beard, Dream Theater, Chicknfoot, Joe Bonnomasso, Children of Bodem, Alestorm. The list of great new music is almost endless.
However, I really have no use for the Pop scene at all. I find it soulless but that is just me.

Sure I can live with that, although I would never get actually tired of it. I find that I go through phases. Right now I am in my Prog phase because I hadn't listened to it for quite a while and it is always refreshing to go back and find something that you hadn't NOTICED before. For example, while playing the Kino CD, I found the short title tune "Picture" to be hauntingly beautiful, with a sublime simple melody that soothes the soul and lyrics that just tease the senses and ended up playing it over and over to bathe myself in its shower of feeling.Myself, and I know this will upset some, am so freaking tired of classic rock that if I never hear any ever again it will be too soon.
And while on Amazon, I ordered up two new Progger's that I hadn't heard before. Several Arena CD's (I was blown away by the samplers!)and Frost's "Milliontown" as well as the newest Spock's Beard and Marillion releases are on their way!
I must admit I don't know too much about today's Pop scene because even though it may be really good, it just can never "move me" the way that Folk, R&B, Pop, Soul and Rock I grew up with does. I think your comment about being "soulless" while maybe a little too harsh is very telling because I personally think it has a lot to do with technology, and its negative influence on the creative side of the songwriting process.
Fortunately, that same technology has not dimmed the light of Prog at all because of the ever changing nature and landscape of that medium. And I guess that is why we got into bands like Yes, King Crimson, ELP and Genesis in the first place...because it wasn't your typical 3-5 minute riff based Pop Rock. And the lyrics just blow me away. We're talking heady stuff here. No repetitive Moon-June wordage suffices for these blokes!
Meanwhile, I have my other outlet with my electronica and jazz age stuff to blow off steam in the Soundworld.
At the end of the day, the old adage still applies...each to his own. Amusing read? I would have to say yes indeed, and if we rubbed a few feathers the wrong way, well life is sometimes tough you know and the path is not always trimmed with pink roses the way we would like. As for Joe's salty comments...I'm still chuckling! Bloody brilliant sarcastic humor mate!

I have to admit that to a certain degree, I totally do get what he's saying. I was surprised though that he didn't mention quantizing and pitch correction. For myself, I tend to find that almost all of today's pop; I hate that word!; is aunties, and pitch corrected till all life is sucked out of it.
