For the past four years, I knew something was definately up.
To make it long story short, why not Korg release the source code to the public so that others could come up with a third party app for the Oasys.
I ask nothing more than the sequencer update like that of the M3. This might hold the future value of the Oasys due to the law of supply and demand. That alone will wipe any complaints out of me for good.

well, i'm not so happy with what's happening for the oasys right now, but i really do hope they won't "open" it to third party, because, be sure that we will see the whole oasys software for free, or for so little money in our computer quickly, and i don't want the money i invest in the oasys to go like smoke would.

OASYS is the most powerfull keyboard and great sounding (i say keyboard, not workstation). I fully understand that it's not manufactured anymore. i do not understand why the development is stopped (don't talk to me about more patches). the only thing about open architecture we saw is mod7 and lac1, nothing else, all the rest is presets, and exs3 could have develop for any keyboard which has a sampler (a lot). so i'm quite disapointed on this point, i wished we could have seen more exis, new effects (not presets), new seq, and things that we can not even imagine.

it's about the crisis ? well the crisis is not here since a year and a half. if it's about the crisis, i hope we won't see a better keyboard, cheaper, in several month, cause i will take it as a big lie from korg. if it's about the crisis, we should not see such a keyboard from korg until 2 or 3 years.

That's my point of view, and i'm totally not angry at korg's representatives who are on this forum. i have a lot of respect for you guys, you have made a fabulous work with the oasys, unfortunately it seems that you can not finish it.

Well Something that puzzles me....

If the Economic climate has possibly affected Korgs decision on the Future of the Oasys, either in respect to pull the plug on its build or development of its software.

Wouldn't it be far more costly to ditch the Oasys concept and release a newer Top Line workstation.

I would hazard a guess that if they were to introduce a new machine to replace the Oasys of better spec its going to be even more expensive than the Oasys due to the rising cost of Components and the recent upsurge in Musical Instrument prices since the downturn of the world economy.

Korg have already dug their own grave in terms of sales of a Newer Flagship because those who bought the Oasys the first time are possibly the bulk of the Consumer figures who would contemplate buying it and would possibly think twice about being sold short with a second Open concept, and its certainly not going to be a middle of the road Priced Workstation availible to everyman and his dog due to financial instability.

Secondly, wouldn't the process and time and development of newer technologies cost more to research and create than simply expanding on whats already there?

i think that the day of the "$8,000.00 workstations" has permanently ended
as it turns out, having a product twice as expensive as the competition.... even if it were the greatest ever (and still is) makes no fiscal sense

still....
in the end....
the "OPEN ARCHITECTURE" thing is what really gets me
well....
since korg chooses not to give us anything new but voices.....
maybe they'll really OPEN UP THE OPERATING SYSTEM.... to anyone who cares to work on it

i surely hope so
what a shame, if not

I seriously doubt that Korg will open up the Oasys for us to develop. The Oasys was never "open" in that sense. Making it "open" and providing an SDK would be considerable amount of work, and it's clear that "considerable amounts of work" on the Oasys are not going to be happening any time soon ;-)

Talking about OPEN, is there anyone here using a Netbook for sample streaming by any chance ?. Seems it could be an interesting choice to greatly expand on the OASYS sounds, maybe even run a VSTi or two. I have my eye on the V-Machine but it seems the OS is more like Alpha than even Beta quality.

A netbook would likely be a better choice maybe and tiny enough to sit on the OASYS itself.

I'm about to sell my Triton Studio and I've got quite a few sounds to keep with me. Too many to sit in OASYS RAM. Not that I have any free as it is.

Regards.

I think this is the most important point. Think of the Oasys as an operating system, not as a single product. I'm not at all surprised that version 1 of the Oasys hardware, which is what we own, is discontinued -- I mean, it was launched over four years ago. I'd be more surprised if there wasn't an Oasys v2 of some sort coming out in the next 1-2 years.

Maybe it won't be an $8k workstation -- if the price tag was indeed a problem in limiting the market potential for the Oasys v1, then I'm sure Korg can take advantage of the declining costs of computer components & maybe remove a couple of the bells and whistles to come out with a version that could be priced at more of a mainstream level. But regardless, it wouldn't make sense for korg to NOT continue leveraging the heavy investment they've already made on the Oasys OS.

The only question is whether & to what extent any new improvements they make to the Oasys OS, for future models, will or won't be compatible with the hardware that we own.
