Although it can be used for that, it is certainly not the only use of hold. In a way, it can give you an extra, single-layer bank. You can hold a drum pattern and keep it playing while you do something externally or just play with the bank buttons. Or even hold a note. Much dance music and IDM do not necessarily have progressions and a bass note can stay on the same note throughout an entire section. Or just to use it in the same way as on the KP3 and hold a position of effect.
Or, when feeling lazy, use it just so you don't have to hold down your finger on the pad! :P

The Hold feature is very useful if you're processing the unit through other treatments so you can use both hands to tweak or just to "park" what you're doing then come back and carry on.

If you're playing along on another instrument, you can Hold a drum program, then reach over and adjust it at any time instead of having it fixed in a loop.

Having it is an actual improvement over the Kaossilator Non-Pro.

Yeah that's true but, it is useless in regards to recording that held note...But that's just beside the point. What I was trying to say is that the hold feature is what gives you the freedom to switch or turn off and on banks while having a note triggered.

You see the Kaossilator pro actually features 2 ways to record your grooves; hit RECORD then choose a bank for continuous recording or you hold down the any of the banks for how ever long you want to or how ever short you want to for a quick on the fly loop. Both styles of recording are useful but it is the last one that actually seems like a bug when you expect something different to happen. The problem is you forget about that feature when you are playing with a synth or whatever and in the middle of performing you hit a bank to turn on or off and you just recorded a piece of the synth you are playing with. I think the hold feature was designed to avoid that problem for a moment.

I really think it was pretty ingenious for korg to think that far ahead but they failed to explain how the HOLD can help you with what would be a common problem of having a quick capture loop feature.

I'm pretty sure they didn't retain the hold feature from other Kaoss products because it can be a solution to this glitch issue.
I think they just retained it because it's pretty much a standard on Kaoss products.

Just this minute discovered you can do this :-

12. Once you've recorded a loop (say 8 beats), you have to wait for another 8 beats before you can go into mixer mode. Be nice not having to wait before adjusting length/levels of other loops.

You have to go into mixer mode by selected shift and any other bank you have not just recorded to! Which is pretty cool as you can still alter the level of the recorded bank. Still, you should be able to do this to the bank you've just recorded to as it is quite intuitive this way...

Agree. Otherwise you would expect a little "Tip" in the manual about it.
Using Hold to avoid the glitches from turning banks on and off is a user "workaround". At least it's an option.

I hope the next kaossilator iteration has programable synths in it. Let's hope the series catches on and makes it that far. I think it will.

looper receiving midi start stop continue so it freaking stay in sync with the rest of the universe it's playing with

ability to mute/unmute while playing, not recording every time pads are pressed (really should be a toggle for that)

Okay; you all know I would want to add this feature eventually. I tried to see the logic behind Korgs midi assignment choices in global and well, I just can't. I have asked for this in the KP3 updates and now i am asking nicely for this in KoPro. And this time around i see this has become a popular option everyone wishes was on KoPro...so here it is at number 19 (scroll down to 19 to see more)

1.Using SHIFT+GATE ARP to allow you to save and call up saved arp gate patterns you created. this also leads to being able to bring back the arp patterns -k0va5 -SMK -curtaineater

2. Be able to play sounds while switching on/off sound banks without recording snippets of sound while you do so -curtaineater

3. combine two sound banks that are already in use, (bouncing tracks) -curtaineater -k0va5

4. be able to customise the effect on the Y axis. This I do not think is possible as it is. however I would want suggest making it so that you can use the existing internal effects on the internal synth that would make more sense and is more feasible. -k0va5 -SMK

4a. use the existing internal effects on the internal synth -k0va5 -SMK

5. Use program numbers in shift mode to have more direct control over chopping up the loops (like on KP3) -Mr36

6. Option for other time signatures (not just beats in increments for 4/4) -Mr36

7. Quantize option -Mr36

8. Midi note on X and Y controllers in GLOBAL mode; ability to control with NORMAL MIDI-NOTE OUTPUT MIDI CONTROLLERS. -Mr36 -SMK

9. Better midi (input) control options. Its hard to get a keyboard going with this thing... -curtaineater

10. Load and save banks on the fly (during a performance/playback), currently it cuts out the unit whilst accessing the SD card. -samartin

11. Ability to record in external audio without hearing it live if the volume level for the recording bank is all the way down. This would open us possibilities for songs no end, allowing for a built up bank loop to be recorded but not heard until the volume was put back up. I was hoping this would be a feature already but alas is not. -Mr36

12. Once you've recorded a loop (say 8 beats), you have to wait for another 8 beats before you can go into mixer mode. Be nice not having to wait before adjusting length/levels of other loops. -samartin

13. 8 note scales in one-octave-mode having one note per grid square
and 8 note scales in two-octave-mode having two notes per grid square for more precise and repeatable playing for a Pro model. The LED squares would become more like actual instrument keys. -Scott M2

14. LED Option for all LEDs to be always lit except the one "in play" (last-touched) would make the grid more easily observed in a live (or any) situation to assist in finding notes. -Scott M2

15. sending a certain channel to just the left out and the rest to the right would really help when it comes to mixing some of these huge bass sounds with everything else. -curtaineater

16. 32 beats. -someone

17. Allow us to save more than 10 All-Programs etc. -roxxx303

18. looper receiving midi start stop continue so it freaking stay in sync with the rest of the universe it's playing with. -m4m

18a. fix the sync bug (it drifts out of sync after a few minutes) -inbetweenmovements

19. The CC (Control Change) Map in global mode; we need Loop Recorder Banks A-D to recieve CC (Control Change) messages along with the pre-existing midi note messages. This make it easier for use to use foot controllers to trigger Loop Recorder Banks to record while performing live. This is a special consideration for those of us who will play 2 handed instruments to record/loop live while playing. Most foot controllers only send CC messages. -SMK

This isn't too earthshaking a firmware request - but I would appreciate another "Raga"-like scale: C Db E F G Ab Bb C
which my group uses in a couple of pieces.

While I'm requesting firmware upgrades:

Having the current Tempo saved and retrieved with Save ALL would be time-saving in a live situation.

Speaking of that - Please make ALL the highest choice in LOAD (above SndA, SndB etc.) so that one can just spin the knob full to the right in a live situation, instead of carefully selecting it.

I would certainly appreciate a way to turn loops On and Off while in the Loop Length/Level mode (like on the KP3).
I appreciate that adjusting the length of several loops at the same time is what that KP3 feature was sacrificed for
but I, personally, rarely need that aspect but am constantly jumping back and forth between it and the Loop Recorder Bank to turn loops On and Off cold.
I wish I had a really clever suggestion for how to implement both aspects -
Perhaps just using the Record button to set the buttons to Loop Length (Record Button and Loop buttons light red)
and they're set to Loop On/Off otherwise (Loop buttons green or yellow as in the Loop Recorder Bank).

To get by the fact that you can't use the bank buttons to turn banks on and off in the length/volume mode, I just use the volumes. Putting them all the way down mutes them. Admittedly, it's not an ideal solution but I've been doing it for a while now and it seems to become more natural. Certainly more of a workaround than a fix though.
