Oh my God.

Dear Korg, I love you.

Couldn't have said it better. It seems as if everything that annoys me about my M3 has been fixed in the Kronos. Especially the setlist thing.

Couple of questions:

-With dynamic voice allocation, is there a way of me specifying which voices in a combi have priority? I have an annoying issue with one patch on my M3 where I want it to hold a chord (which I do using the sustain pedal) while I play another sound using a controller board, but since I play the chord first, it drops out first where i really need it to be the other sound. My method of fixing this is to assign the chord to a pad, and sit my mobile phone on the pad to hold it down, but if I can assign priority, that would be a far, far more graceful option ;)

-Is the touch screen still resistive, or is it a capacitive screen? After you use an iPod screen, the M3's resistive screen seems really brutal ;)

-My M3 has the RADIAS expansion board, is there any way of getting the RADIAS sounds into the Kronos, besides individually sampling them all?

-And yeah, im interested to know the answer from Warman above about using external midi pads :)

-Any ideas about a rough release timeframe for Australia?

I'm afraid that the purchase of a Kronos may just be a foregone conclusion ;)

Hi Rich F and Dan,

Couple of questions ...

Is the Ram upgradable from 1gig ?

Can you plug in a Nanopad and assign the chord triggers to it ?

Thanks

I'm sorry to keep harping on the 'fan' issue, but would it be possible to give an indication about the minimum and maximum RPM of the fan, and which fan is used, incl. the size of the fan?
This will give me some impression of what I can expect from the KRONOS in terms of fan noise when the processor heats up.

I appreciate the answers you have given me so far, and thank you for taking the time to reply.

The mod/pitch stick of course doesn't stay in position when released. Can modulation be mapped to a slider for use with soft synths (for example Omnisphere).

Thanks,

On other Korg workstations, one of the buttons above the joystick can be mapped to 'Joystick X' or 'Joystick +Y' or 'Joystick -Y' 'lock', so it holds the value at which it was when you pressed the button. Fairly handy but yes, I prefer an unsprung joystick or just a wheel for modulation.

Another handy feature that you may not be familiar with is that the downwards '-Y' modulation sends off CC2 (GM 'Breath' control), and forwards '+Y' modulation sends off CC1 (GM 'Modulation' control, same as a modwheel), so you effectively have two modwheels and a pitch bender in that one joystick.

The Control surface (set de sliders and buttons at the letf of the screen) can be used to control other devices by using MIDI messages / CC so it's possible.
Also note that Mod/Pitch controller return to the original position but you also have the vector joystick that doesn't ... and it could be used to control different parameters also. I don't know Kronos but if it works as Oasys (everything seems to show it works exactly in the same way) you won't be dissapointed with the amazing amount of controls and programmability of those controls you will have available for Kronos and any other synth attached to it.

Rgds.

Hi rich, nice demo, enjoyed it very much.

Will you/korg be doing some "tutorials" like Kurzweil do here

http://www.kurzweilmusicsystems.com/Vid ... v&title=16. PC3 SOUND-EDITOR: INTRODUCTION&duration=17:56&filesize=82.3 MB

http://www.kurzweilmusicsystems.com/Product.php?id=208
Would be very useful to start us off, since the OASYS din't have a "first-party" tutorial at all i don't think. Roland do the same with there Fantoms. also Yamaha I think

Hi Rich,

You say that the Kronos will be released in late April. Is that the same for the pa3x?

Thanks,

I think it has already 2 gig of ram, but the OS take almost 1 gig

So maybe someday we could upgrade it to 4 gig?

Nanopad is not supported, but they have talked about it (it does mean they will do it)

Really? Like Korg talked about making the OASYS 'Open'? Like they talked about future releases/updates? Like they talked about EXf? Like they talked about a function button 'that is reserved for future use'? Etc, etc...

Don't understand how you can have such faith when there is so much evidence to show that this faith in Korg goes completely and utterly unrewarded.

Only buy Kronos for what it can do today - don't get me wrong; it's a great board (it comes from the O so it must be good!). But this is the key lesson that O users have learned - do not under any circumstances assume or hope that there will ever be anything more than can be bought now.

For now though, the OS is most likely not in it's release state. I bet it's still getting tweaked and optimized before releasing the Kronos hardware. And I assume that another benefit of 'Annoucing' a product and shipping it months later is that they get to read these forum posts and add those 'Oh Yeah, duh' features.

Can the Kronos/OASYS create new waveforms by drawing them with the joystick (ala DSS-1)?

Brilliant! Thanks for the laugh :3drofl:

But you're probably right... although I would suggest that the Kronos OS is the OASYS OS (essentially) but, although they have known for 5 years or so that the sequencer needs work, it appears that it hasn't changed for the 'K'... So again, how much have they listened? Not sure.

They changed the sequencer for the M3 (eg piano roll), but even the Kronos doesn't get the benefit of that change. This suggests to me all the more, that the OASYS OS has been lifted and ported to the Kronos, with additions for new engines and the set-list thingy.
