Sorry, I just don't get the scare-mongering going on here.
Debates such as this is going to make sure that Kronos deliveries/sales will be severely disrupted by this nonsense.
This is a keyboard/music forum - if folks want to discuss radioactivity can they please go to a forum that is focussed on that. (or if you must discuss it here, move it to Off Topic - this is posted in the Kronos section. Kronos is a musical instrument - not a geiger counter)
I was recenty in Tokyo (after the quake and reactor leak) and am absolutely fine. Just as Korg keyboards are/will be.
Smoking my cigars will do me more harm than either Japan or Korg will do me.
Can we go back now to be a music forum based in the real world instead of a science board based on hypothesis, anecdote or fantasy? Or is that too much to ask

That's a tempting thing to say, but unfortunately there is no "x1" in the general case. Radiation, in small levels, is all around us; you are dosed by sleeping next to someone, eating a banana, lying in the sun, breathing the atmosphere, drinking the water etc. These factors vary, sometimes widely, from place to place - often due to natural phenomena.Apresmidi2010 wrote:Dan: You are saying too much about degree of contamination. I think everyone out there simply want x1, not x2 to x6
The amount of fear generated by radiation appears to be disproportionate to the actual risk. That's not to say that all radiation is benign, but rather that the general concern over radiation vs. the actual probability of death or injury from radiation is out of scale compared to (for instance) the general concern over driving cars vs. the actual probability of death or injury from driving cars.
Or, as environmentalist Mark Lynas wrote about the evacuation of the Swiss embassy staff from Tokyo to Osaka:
"I do hope their staff have a safe journey: They will be exposed to vastly greater dangers from an accident on the road journey down to Osaka than if they had stayed put in Tokyo with its infinitesimally raised levels of radiation."
See this essay in the New York Times:

You're right...Apresmidi2010 wrote:BTW, quit Cigars, it is really dangerous.

Hope you guys keep motivated in Japan. When I was there (visiting ANA and JAL) I was so impressed how quietly people got on with their day. No fuss, no panic, no stress, no fear. Just dedication to normality in a mutually considerate way.
My deepest respect to you all.

You are not a scientist so please stop acting like one. The fact is that you don't know how radiation or whatever can effect things period , so stop trying to sell your opinion . The fact is the scientist don't even know where this is going they just know it's very bad like one of the worst Nuclear disasters in history and your going to tell us O don't be worried because Ozy said so Yo who the F are you telling people not to be worried your just some ashole on a music forum . So we should all be aware. This is a serious matter so stop your BS for a day or two .ozy wrote:Ships have been contaminated for decades now.
Depleted uranium is used for cleaning ship' s engines and avoid sea water from damaging them,
more or lss since the early 90s
so, everything shipped by... er... ship in the last 20 years was contaminated.
So, who cares? We are doomed anywhere. Everything is poisonous around us.
I don't know if this information has any value, I read it somewhere on the internet, and posted it here so that it becomes validated by all the people who visit this forum.
That's how bullshit is born and spreaded, btw.
I read so much bullshit in the above posts, that I couldn't refrain from adding some.

LOL!!! Very good, AkosAkos Janca wrote:If Kronos radiates then it's dangerous only when you are near.
1: We will be safe here because everybody is posting all day instead of playing music.
2: Some of us will not sleep with Kronos anymore (like Mike Conway with the O).

Seriously. There's already a thread in the Off Topic section for those scared to death of any form of radiation. I wish you guys would quit dragging it back here and annoying us. Along with talk of KRONOS being canceled doe to threat of musician mutations.cello wrote:Can we go back now to be a music forum based in the real world instead of a science board based on hypothesis, anecdote or fantasy? Yea, .. you are probably right, theres no need for concern or importance here.synthguy wrote:Seriously. Maybe all of the Kronos to be owners and their pregnant spouse, should just get their new keyboards and get sick or even die. .. DUH!

Lou
I'm glad you understand.
But seriously, you guys afraid of stuff you have no clue about should go to the Off Topic section and wring your hands at each other there, and go email bomb Obama or the leader of your home country about it. Musicians in general are notorious for having very little knowledge of most subjects beyond MIDI controllers, resonant filters and guitar tabs, but carrying on as if they know it all. So if you're looking for answers here, you're just going to get your head spun in circles.

This article puts the whole radiation thing in perspective nicely. The gist of the article is: radiation levels in Tokyo are only slighty higher than New York and lower than Hong Kong.
