I don't quite understand why there is a fan to (apparently) cool off the SSD.
Isn't one of the characteristics of an SSD that it does not become as warm as a spinning hard drive?

It may not only be about the SSD. The power supply is adjacent and that must produce heat as well.
If the presence of the fan is to cool down the power supply wouldn't it have made more sense to install it on the left side of the power supply to blow the air over to the other side?

I may be completely wrong, but it may be positioned between the two to 'generally' move air around in that area.

What I don't know from the pic is if the fan sucks or blows, pardon the pun, but that would make a difference where the air is going, obviously. Perhaps Korg found that that spot tended to build up heat.

Dispaly heat maybe?

Since many people here are guessing, I might try as well.
Maybe the touch screen is generating heat which is projected downwards to this point, and the fan is located there to prevent the heat from building up?

When I am referring to the same sound quality, I am referring to converters tech specifications like, frequency response, dynamic range, level of noise, level of distortion, bit rate, sampling frequency, etc.
Obviously the new samples and synth engines present on Kronos will sound different from M3. 8)

The backlight generates heat but in case of the Kronos it should be minimal because of the small screen size. The Atom CPU runs cool and hardly needs active cooling. So, the only heat source left is the PSU. But the fan doesn't directly cool the PSU. I would say with some strategically located vents and heatsinks the Kronos could have been fanless.

Even thought unnoticeable 8ms is a very high latency for a hardware keyboard.
I run a Computer system at 5ms and sometimes crazy as low as 3-4.

Was the latency measured with a single note? I assume so. Then 8-10 ms is too high for a hardware synth. Imagine what would happen if you play a bunch of notes. Whether one can hear the delay or not is up to his ears, though.

The latency of the Roland JD-800 introduced in 1991 was 1-2 ms. Since then the computing power has increased by, what, 5,000%?

I remember reading somewhere that even a higher latency that is fixed is better than one that changes based on load. The latency hasn't been a problem for me yet.

8 ms for running multiple synth engines through multiple passes of multiple effect processors? If All the Kronos was doing was playing a sample when you pressed a key, the latency would be pretty much zero.
