32-bit Vista and 7 are still limited to 3.25 GB even though it says 4 GB. It only says 4 GB because people were complaining (when Vista first came out) so Microsoft added a patch to make it say 4GB.EvilDragon wrote: The same thing should be possible on 32-bit systems (and lo and behold, 32-bit Vista and Windows 7 see and support all 4 GB of memory, not 3.25).

McHale, I know exactly what he's describing and what he's talking about. I never said he was wrong, I just said people will find any and everything to complain about with these workstations/keyboards. At first people were complaining about ONLY having 2gb when the motherboard could read 4gb... (if the motherboard could only read 2Gb people would have been fine and dandy with 2... but since it can read 4... LET THE COMPLAINING BEGIN)
A guy took a chance and installed the 4 but it could only read 3.25. Instead of there being happiness and enjoyment of the 3.25.... PEOPLE COMPLAIN THAT IT CAN'T READ THE ENTIRE 4...
And if I read correctly, this guy doesn't even own the board, and he's complaining... about a "stupid" limitation. That's all I"m saying man, people COMPLAIN TOO FREAKIN MUCH about these instruments. No matter what, someone is going to be unhappy. I wasn't singling him out, just saying it was a PERFECT example.
(on a side note... I have a degree in computer information systems and I repair computers on the side (for fun and extra money)... so I know exactly what a hard drive is and RAM and why you can't access the entire drive..
It was simply an example.

Thanks, Patrick, that sounds easy enough.PGT wrote:2 slotsjimknopf wrote:Any critical things when opening the Kronos? Or straightforward unscrewing all the bottom side screws without any problems?
How many memory slots?![]()
MY METHOD:
UNPLUGED your KRONOS![]()
WARNING
1) Return your KRONOS, and move it on 2 sweet pillows (for example), 1 for the right side / 1 for the left side. Please, apply a particular attention to the cursors and at the joystick.
2) the screws located under the keyboard are holding an aluminium bar, attention when you unscrew the bar go down
3) unscrew all screws before remove the bottom cover in aluminium
4) locate and remove the original 2GB memory stick
5) put the 2x2GB memory sticks
6) put the cover and screw some screws
7) put in place the front bar and fix it with the screws
PLUG THE POWER CABLE and Power ON your KRONOS
9) Go to the Global menu Page and verifying if you have 3.25 GB
Patrick
Based on your experience, can the bottom be removed *without* having to separate that bar from the bottom?PGT wrote:MY METHOD:

The triton extreme has the bars too. They are pretty fool proof. the screw holes usually line up with the back plate perfectly so its easy not to mess them up. honestly if you have the keyboard on a flat table and arent ravaging it when you open it, it shouldn't really move. its what stabilizes your keybed btw. thats one reason the kronos/triton keys feel better then the FATAR ones on the karma or triton LE, this is secured down by metal so you dont feel like your diving into plastic like the karma, which is held down by plastic threaded pegs.
TL;DR, it should be the least of your worries!
i do have a question....
Is there 2 one gig sticks in there? or two slots and one two gig stick?
thanks

It's one 2Gb DDR2 6400 RAM, one slot free.robbinhood wrote: Is there 2 one gig sticks in there? or two slots and one two gig stick?
Very tempting to upgrade, but there's no way I'm voiding my warranty as I'm having freezing problems when loading samples from an external USB HDD... still waiting for an answer from Korg about this.

i don't want to be that guy that looks like an asshole to korg for saying this. But honestly, there are no "security tabs" or "anti tamper" when you open a keyboard. You gotta be pretty dumb to screw something up like putting in new ram. If you ever have to give it in for warranty, it shouldnt be too hard to take out the ram you put in. I doubt your dealer will look inside the keyboard to make sure!Kronik wrote:It's one 2Gb DDR2 6400 RAM, one slot free.robbinhood wrote: Is there 2 one gig sticks in there? or two slots and one two gig stick?

I personally will do this as SOON as i run out of memory (im unloading the japanese grand first though...) And if i god forbid have to take this in for warranty repair (i hate repairing my own boards) I will just take out the memory i put in and put in the stock memory... Unless the reason i have to take it in has something to do with me screwing with the RAM, then ill take responsibility and suck it up and take measures into my own hands.
just sayin...

if you think the doofus at guitar center is gonna check for that youre insane!EXer wrote:"Not seen, not caught"
Just be careful not to leave marks on the screws if you don't want to have your warranty voided.

Just dont leave a buig postit and that says I OPENED IT! HAHA!
No offence at all... but only things like mac minis cant be tampered with without them knowing, they have tabs and special tools for that stuff

CPU upgrade is almost certainly a no go (An Oasys owner tried and failed, and I can't see the Kronos being any different)Bachus wrote:Next up to try ?
Maybe a processor upgrade?
Or An SSD upgrade?
SSD upgrade is certainly feasible, but you may have to re-authorise your Kronos via Korg's site (explained on page 1136 of the parameter guide), but there's no info on their site for reauthorising.
That's if you do a fresh install of the OS/expansions. If you do a ghost image of the hard drive, shouldn't have to.Kronik wrote:SSD upgrade is certainly feasible, but you may have to re-authorise your Kronos via Korg's site (explained on page 1136 of the parameter guide), but there's no info on their site for reauthorising.
Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha).
