Sorry Martin but NO, thats not the case, even Kronos doesnt have 3GB of RAM
forget about Krome...it clearly states its ROM and not RAM.

PCM Memory:

3.8 GB, 48kHz/16-bit linear equivalent

1,077 Multisamples (Including 7 Stereo multisamples)

1,609 Drumsamples (Including 116 Stereo Drumsamples)

That clearly states what those GBs are used for.

Well, I only hope it will make it through to the final production firmware. We already saw it, and there are many (me included) deciding for the Krome over something else just because of this feature. I will be very disappointed if they clip it out at the final stages.
I think what Sharp is suggesting is that this was not a video of a production Krome. That during the development process people, who's job it is to tweak and test the multisamples and programs, have a version of the instrument that might allow them to load everything into flash ROM or RAM. Once everything is tweaked, edited and arranged just right, the mutlisamples are then locked into ROM (the production version).

It doesn't make sense that this incredible feature would not be mentioned in any of the specs or presentations, nor does it make sense given the price point of this product.

 I'll keep my hopes up, until we have the final spec list from Korg. It would have been awesome. I could have loaded my Mellotron samples and recreate so many patches I use for my Genesis tributes.

I think It's like the easter egg on the Triton LE... You can Load KSC Files but you can't read about it anywhere.

Hmm, I have one of those and do not remember hearing about an easter egg. What would the prize be that you are speaking of?? :D

... Loading samples. He just said that.
You can do it without the sampling board (all you need is some RAM).

Hmm, but in this case, it seems you can do use them. Korgman created a blank program and assigned the downloaded waveforms to the oscillator. Next step, put it on a combi, and you are set.

The sampling board for the TR/Le series includes the stereo 20 bits ADCs for real time sampling, the SCSI chip interface to connect an external SCSI storage device (no sense on the TR due the SD card).

The only benefit is that you can mix in real time an external audio source and route it to the DSP bus. I tested it and work fine, very clean audio but I don´t know if the TR support real time effects for the ADCs sources, this feature would be great. The external input from the sampling card can be used outside sampling mode, so an external sound can be processed by the insert effects, master effects and master EQ (similar as the Yamaha MOX audio input), that´s what the manual says.

The sampling option card was free of charge when I buy the TR, it comes also with 16 Mb of RAM but I installed used 32 MB SIMMs from an HP server. I prefer to have it installed so the keyboard is complete, my point of view.

But as James said...it might be a different version of Krome...i had few of
that kind of synths thruought my life while working with some of the companies
where everything is open to me before it goes for final release and mass production.
Maybe it was one of those...maybe he works with/for Korg...and he made a mistake.

Yes it works !!! the Korg TR audio input process effects in realtime, I have "audio in" real time effects on the TR !!! (all the 89 effects, this means echo, reverb, modulations, pitch shifter, phaser, flanger, stereo harmonic chorus, talking modulator, etc!!!). I´m using an external microphone and when playing I can sing through the microphone with real time effects !!! in the same way as the Yamaha MOX series...

Great Korg again, the TR is old but very powerful !!!!

Manuals are posted in Japan. There is no user sample loading option according to the Parameter Guide. The only options are:

Bank [Mono, Stereo, XL.M, XL.St]

XL.M and XL.St are extra large Mono and Stereo.

No official word on sample playback yet. And, as I was afraid, they just released a newer version of the OS, different from the one shown in the sampling video. 1.0.1 vs 1.0.0.

So, for those of us wishing to play samples in our Krome, I would suggest to start looking for version 1.0.0 everywhere. Just for safety. Let's hope Korg left the sampling functionality open in newer OS versions.

notice the files he was loading were dated 3/12 and 5/12 (it appears he created the 5/12 one during his video. So he may have had the beta product for a while.

This would be a real killer feature. (And a huge advantage over the MOX8 at comparable weight and price for an 88.)

No, I don't think it streams from SD, nor do I think it is loading into Yamaha/Nord/Kurzweil style non-volatile (and pricey) flash RAM. My guess would be that there's some small amount of user RAM in there (or installable) that you can load sounds into at startup, as Korg has done before. The M3 (which I believe is, in some way, the underlying foundation of both the M50 and Krome) came with 64 mb in it, for example. And as mentioned, you could install sample RAM into the M50's predecessor, the TR, even if you didn't install the sampling board. (That, the aftertouch, and assignable outs were what I really missed in the transition from TR to M50, and why I always saw the M50 as kind of crippled. Too much engineering down to a price, I guess.)

If the hardware is capable of it, but the ability was removed between 1.0 and the released OS, my guess would be that the feature is still in the pipeline and was not yet ready for release. Maybe it's unstable. Or maybe they are waiting until they have some kind of computer editor for generating the file from whatever wavs you have (instead of expecting the user to go buy Awave or whatever).
