Thanks Steven and Jerry for clarification and to anyone in the forum for information!

i have to say that M3 is truly the top-notch workstation on the market, yesterday i spent few hours trying the new motif G and as comparison the motif xs and there no comparison, M3 features (touchscreen, drum track, sequencer, sound searching and so on) are far away better than competitors...

and with this new package is still better

Anyone experiencing an issue with loading data they previously created in v1.x should see this new wiki article I'm putting together. Feel free to add any useful information:

Korg M3: Updating your custom sounds to OS 2.0
As I allready have the code to get a combi dump I think I'll make a little macro to update my combis.
Should this work ?

1) Send a combi dump request
2) Convert to 8 bits
3) Replace bank and patch info for each timbre
4) Back to 7 bits
5) Send the dump
6) Send a Store Object Combi
7) Back to 1)

Actually it would be faster and easier to update directly a pcg. Is there some info about the pcg file format ?

edit:
I made a tabbed text file of the patch table conversion (can be loaded in excel,..)

hi all, i'am trying to download the 256MB from korg.com server, but the download speed remains at 15-16 KB/s and it takes more than 5 hours to download everything (and i am connected with ADSL+ @ 7Mb/s ...)

is it the same for your? there is another location with more bandwitdh to download?

Yesterday I've downloaded it at a very high speed. I don't know, maybe later you will be more lucky.

All the sounds from the original 512 programs and 384 Combis are still there (with only the acousitc piano Programs modified to suit the new PCM)?

All the 512 SuperCharged Programs are in there as well.

And some new Programs have been added.

The only issue for you to be careful about is any new Programs you made for yourself or bought from any 3rd-party vendors. And any Combis you made or bought. They would all have to be revised to reference the new Program order.

OK?

regards,

Jerry
From what i have understood reading the doc related to Xpanded M3 almost all program have changed location as well as Drum pattern hence all home-made Combis and .SNG file have to be manually re-arrenged.

Since i have several .SNG files created under 1.x M3 OS, can I upgrade to 2.0 OS and, when i need to work again on old song, load a .PCG file related to 1.x Program and Combis?

the Multisample in ROM are remained in the same position? or there is an automatic conversation (as it seems from document)?

loading an "old" .PCG file i will find again all Prog and Combi as in 1.x version and hence can work on my .SNG file w/o having to manually re-arrange sounds?

thanks for clarification.

I ended up just biting the bullet and converting my 50 or so songs by hand. Tedious to be sure, but not difficult and now that its done I should be fine til version 3.0

I think he's referring to the category organization of the M3 (category and sub-categories, very good).

It would be nice if the M3 had some sort of search function.

Thanks, indeed it works fine.
I first tried to send just the patch+bank sysex but this had the same effect than changing the patch on the lcd, tone adjust would get lost.
But sending the full dump preserved everything.

The tool (updates combi patches based on korgs cross list) is windows only (tested only on xp sp2), so if someone is interested let me know, I can make it a little more user friendly.

Until now, Korg had the best sound quality of any manufacturer. Now this new OS takes the cake: Korg has the best feature set of any manufacturer!!!

Thank you Korg Japan (Inc), Jerry, Stephen and the rest! You guys will always rule my world!

Now if the chassis could be updated...just kidding...it isn't that bad
