my fan noise is totally acceptable.
And my K88 is in a 10' x 12' room with hardwood floors, windows. Sound carries, etc.
Most of the comments in this thread are subjective (I can't stand it, I barely notice it, etc.). The problem with these observations (while still interesting) is that they don't describe how loud it will seem to others. Musicians are notorious for having various levels of hearing.
I believe that more objective measurements (SPL readings, recordings) would be more useful.
Also, has anyone tried replacing (or isolating) the fan?

I think most musicians can quickly tune out the ambient noise. the idea is to focus and concentrate ( and enjoy) your music.
I understand the predisposition to tinker or find a way to improve something. Since there is a warranty involved, I would not be one to replace components like a fan.
While my fan is louder than my SSD fitted MacBook, I find it acceptable for my purposes. That being said, I can see it being an issue if you were recording a solo vocal part in the same room with a sensitive mic.

I have posted a few comments in various threads about the fan noise.
I returned my K61 this week to be replaced with a K88 in the hope that the fan noise will be quieter.
Unfortunately I will have to wait for the K88.....
I did read another comment on the forums that was posted by a user who swapped the K61 for a K88 and said there was no fan noise (or very little) and they felt that the K88 was definitely better in that respect.
When isolated I found the noise to be irritating and distracting but when played at monitor levels (or using live amplification) it is not noticeable especially when mixed in with noise from a computer fan as well.
But if you just want to sit in a room and play a piano sound quietly I do personally think the drone can be irritating.
Maybe I am just more sensitive to the frequencies involved??
However I will just live with it and work around it in future if I have to.
BTW The Kronos sounds fantastic....

Great thread. My K61 has been on order since mid July. I am expecting it this week or the next. BTW, I don't notice the noise issues on my Oasys 76.
I sincerely hope that the noise issue is not as extreme as some of you have experienced. Thanks for posting the fan links also.

If you did not notice the fan noise with the O76, then you should be just fine with the KRONOS (though it is a different sound).

Of course it's no problem while you're making sounds, it's during those off-hours while I'm doing something else that the fan noise is bothersome and I just want to shut if off. It is strange having a keyboard that is humming in a certain key (D with E in the melody, if memory serves, or perhaps it's E with F3 in the melody). What key is your Kronos in?

Somebody a while back DID measure the SPL for the fan noise for both the KRONOS and the OASYS. They did not do it on all versions of each keyboard so I suppose it could get different results from either.
I have the K88 and I can hear it if I'm listening for it when I boot up, after that, I don't hear it at all.
My OASYS 76 is from day one extremely noisy, but I´ve played another 76 model that it wasnt noIsy at all.
Some units are noisier than others, that´s a fact some of us have checked, and I tend to think that it depends on many aspects of every particular unit and not only the key model, IMHO.
