Great! Please update on progress.
I was thinking using a tiny plastic container filled with thin foam slices to house the new external SD card. And even so, I'd make sure I have an extra SD cable and a drum key at every gig.
The slot on the side of the panel seems like a natural. It's still scary to have a strip going out of there but hey, it will look better than a modified drum machine I once had.

hi aminco
no need
turn around your WD and find out , that the inner corners
of the empty space in the middle are open along the long side
once you open your wd you see what I mean
thats the way to keep everything in the middle area...
and to lead out the cable.

to be considered :
is the connection on the board stabil against vibration ?
Yes that is a serious consideration. The clip that normaly holds the card in place may not work with the cable, so an adhesive may be NECESSARY. Is silicone gel OK for such a purpose?
I wouldn’t do this if it would mean having that cable dangling out of the drum. The card reader should not stick out of the WD more than a centimeter. It should be stuck in place in the gap between rim and front panel, so that you can access it from the front side of the drum.
Those ribbon cables are really made to be stuck in place inside devices and not moved around too much.
Because you can't really fold that cable, we need to check that the length will be suitable, should be easy with a non-metal tape measure....
So the question is who will open their WD and measure it .... I would certainly want to attempt to take the cable through the route we discussed.
I could have a go at opening and measuring and taking some photos but it may take me a week or two to get around it. I need to change the skin anyway...

you can see on this picture, you have a file named "USER.BOR"
i 'm not shure, but i think is the file contain the user setting
That file is only 1 Kb so it's unlikely it contains the user programs, maybe it is the global settings. The user programs must be in one or more of the other files.

As soon as mine arrives I will open mine and make a small video or photos. I do not know where it is shipping from or how long it will take though.

answer: the user bank is WD2_PROG.BIN (11kB)
@all its really funny to watch everybody discussing the cable thing
so I can lean back and wait for a cool solution..
I will go for the middle bottom solution,
and my favourite reader looks like this:
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/43674 ... cable.html
still dont know ,where to make a single order
the reader is for normal size SD Cards , better for my big fingers...

I might contact the seller of this cable Waterdrum linked a page back. It doesn't have a push to eject or even an insertable sd slot it is the style you lay in and close. I wonder if the seller might be willing to make some with a different end. All these parts are coming from their location anyway, might be easier for them to obtain and produce. We will see the part I ordered is in shipping so it should be here in a week, about.

Got home to find the cable had arrived. It is just as the picture but not as sturdy as I would like. I would say it isn't a micro WD end Inwould open on a daily basis. You have to slide the cover then open it and it is very light weight. Now it might be fine but this is my initial impression, that and the cable is shortaybe 4 inches long which may be enough. I will try mounting it this weekend and take a picture or two for you guys. Later Bertotti
